Changes in breathing in the heat?

I have been giving them ice water twice a day, which they definitely like. I made some ice blocks last night and set them out this morning. They haven't figured them out yet, though.... the milk jug idea is a good one. I may try that! My hen's still breathing funny, though. Thanks for the...

Changes in breathing in the heat?

The bad heat wave has hit VA.... and in addition to the normal breathing with mouths open, one of my hens is making a snoring sound.... she's sleeping. Is this OK, or should I be worried? My flock is all stressed out... we lost a hen about a week ago. She just vanished... no sign of her at all...

    Most docile rooster breed?

I have some kind of Sumatra, and he is a perfect gentleman... he sacrificed himself for his girls when a big rottweiler chased the flock (only lost his tail, btw), always catches treats for the girls and calls them over (grapes, berries, bugs....), and alerts them of danger. He even had all the...

    Roundworms... please help!

I doubt I would have any luck administering anything orally... my chickens won't let me touch them! They take food from my hand, though, so I'm wondering if they would take the paste as a "treat." I wouldn't have any luck with my rooster, though. He's a perfect gentleman and gives all of his...

    Roundworms... please help!

OK. So I guess I'm making a trip to my local small town feed store.... I hope they have everything I need. How do I use Safeguard? So I can also expect to go without eggs for about a month. *sigh* I've got a lot to learn.

    Roundworms... please help!

Well, that's pretty much what the poop looked like. Pretty gross... although I'm in the medical field and can handle pretty much anything. I have to say I was speechless for a time after seeing that, though. So, what's the best treatment, then? And how long are the eggs toxic after treating?

    Roundworms... please help!

Thanks for the advice! If you use Wazine, how long do you need to wait until you can eat the eggs again? And where do you purchase this, how much do you use, etc?

    Roundworms... please help!

Thanks for your response! I have a neighbor with a large flock, so I will ask him what he does, too. Do you discard eggs for a period of time during the worming process?

    Roundworms... please help!

I am new to keeping chickens (and to this forum!), so thanks in advance for your help! I have a small flock of red sexton hens (4) with one rooster (supposedly a Sumatra, but looks more like a Maran). When I let them out of their coop yesterday, I discovered a fresh pile of poop with lots of...
