I'm sorry to here that your birds are not doing well. Can you explain a little bit more about their condition? I would recommend doing a thorough look over on each bird and look for things like snot coming from the nose, bubbly or swollen/crusty eyes, and lethargic behavior. Other symptoms...

I know that a couple of my hens turn their noses up to oyster shells. Thats why I also add egg shells to thier diet. Your birds are lucky to be receiving all of the good attention that their getting. I might also add (because I have researched this a lot) that it can sometimes just be the layer...

please help not sure whats wrong with my hen??

Hello! I have a hen who used to frequently act like she was about to die and then a few hours later pass an egg that was soft/deformed/ broken. The first time it was so severe that i actually had to retrieve a piece of membrane from inside of her vent that she wasn't able to pass even with a...

What bedding do you use? - POLL

I got play sand, and am actually liking it a lot! It is a really nice consistency and very easy to shovel through. Each morning when I am feeding the girls I open up the door to the coop and sift through it all, then I dump the poo into the compost. It works very well and there is literally no...

Help! My chickens stopped laying after one day with me!

I would say that is normal, My girl Roxy took quite a while to settle in. You don't have to keep exact record of the amout of food they are eating I guess, more of "do they eat like hungry beasts" or like a normal chicken, scratching around and occasionally going to the feeder for a snack. Up...

Help! My chickens stopped laying after one day with me!

Hey ! Welcome to BYC!!! Many times when hens are placed in a new environment it takes them a while to get used to things. Often times they shut down for a week or two before producing again, I know mine always do. I wouldn't worry two much about the feather loss, it could be molt, or from being...

    Funniest Moments In The Coop!

Well.....On really cold mornings my girls refuse to get of the roost in the mornings. When I walk out with their feed they all peer over the roost and start begging for breakfast. So they get breakfast in "bed".

What bedding do you use? - POLL

I fully understand your perspective, however please note that I live in the city, have neighbors that live in very close proximity to the coop and the coop its self is very small. I really don't mind taking a minute a few minutes in the morning to take care of my animals and do a quick clean up...
