Im in the same situation...I have 3 Rhode Island Reds that are not a year old yet. In December they all started laying and then due to weather changes production slowed down for 2 of them and one has stopped producing all together. The weather here in MN has been fantastic since feb/march, but...

Thx everyone! I had a leftover roof vent when they re-roofed our house and a created soffet- type venting as well. We mounted a thermometer to keep track of temps so will see how the venting works. No I am not a carpenter by trade but am very handy with many things...its funny I work...
So it seems like I have been working on this longer than Noah worked on the ark...ok...maybe not that long! It is finally done and the gilrs are moved in! The funny thing is, is that I critter prooded it (or so I thought) and the very next day we came to find a chipmunk inside the coop! I'm...
Hey everyone...just a quick question. I have a laying box that measures 36"(L) x 15"(W) by 15"(H). It would essentially give me about 10" per chicken to lay (I have 3 hens). Is it essential that the lay box is seperated? Or can I have one big laying box? Just not sure if 10" inches per...
Craigslist, Freecycle in your area, ask friends and family to clean out their garage/storage sheds. Also habitat for humanity has local stores that sell off extra materials they gather for really cheap!
My only explanation is Alien Abduction and transplantation! Anway you can watch them to see how it is happening? Do you think a neighbor is messing with them?
thanks everyone! We have been periodically taking them outside to get them acclimated to their REAL environment. It sounds like its time to take the lamp away soon. I hope to be done with the coop in another week pending weather and materials!
Thanks again everyone...you have been most helpful!
Hey blessed!
Like most have siad it would be best to send an email or otherwaise contct all your friends to see what they have sitting around that they may want to get rid of. I have been able to build a majority of my run and coop off from friends that donated items (2x4s, plywood and other...
Hey everyone...I'm in the process of building my coop and am using a left over roof vent from our house. Aside from the following vent where else should I place venting?

Much more left to do though!
Wow! That would be an amazing start! Instead of messing with our playhouse we decided to add to it! That way our boys can still play in it and our chicks have a place to call their own.
Can't wait to see renovation pics!
I too have found myself checking all free/giveaway sites a lot lately to build our coop. Another site to get signed up for is freecycle.com. so far I have only spent $6 on my coop! Yeaaahh!
I agree...two doors is too much work! they will be happy with one enterence/exit door and I would tend to lean towards not having a floor door. It might make cleaning out the coop much easier too.
