This is the most brilliant idea overall I've found! A 5 gallon bucket with lid, holes on sides for the chicken heads to fit through with a plumbing float inside that keeps the water fresh just below the holes. Very sturdy, especially when placed on a couple cinder blocks to raise it off the...
She looks better today...guess I survived my first sick chicken and now I know that perhaps all ailments do not lead to a certain death.
Thanks again for your support and expertise!

Just sat in the coop with all of them and she is eating and drinking then stands in the corner and closes her eyes. She did have a very watery poop. Comb drooping over more than usual. Checked again for lice or mites to the best of my ability and nothing. I do dust the coop weekly with DE...

Looking for black copper maran chicks/pullets in south georgia/north florida...a long shot, but possibly could drive for pick up. If anyone knows any, please contact me here.

We have the 3 marans which we got at auction. Finally have started to lay a few eggs. One has what we refer to as a "bald butt" but appears to still lay. What causes complete loss of feathers under the tail feathers?? Is it a problem for her...her 2 sisters do not have this. Thanks for input.
We just got 3 hens at auction and are learning about chickens. Very sweet...just waiting to see those beautiful eggs we keep hearing about! Thanks for helping to educate me.
