I am looking for some black shoulder fertile eggs and found this thread. I don't know that I can swap right now I only have mixed flock of bantams with access to mixed turkeys and large fowl. I am actually incubating some turkey eggs for a friend and wanted to put some pea eggs in at the same...
Yep, he is a beauty but of course all my geese from Vicky are:) I have two low libido/poor breeders ganders from Vicky. Both are good boys even in the breeding season. As I don't want to breed and have young nephews around their low drive is a plus for me.
Here is "Dually" in his new home. He settled in just fine. The other goose is Tresor another gander. And of course those two don't go far without their turkeys :) He hasn't met the other geese as they are at my mom's house while the pasture fence is being worked on. Sorry it took so long to get...
PO called at 7:30. He is home and doing just fine. He didn't seem in the least bit bothered by the trip or new surroundings:) I'll get a pic posted this pm. Thanks Iain
Just sent the testing $ for my gander. FYI its comes from Larry Smith/hickory because of a shared paypal account. I'm getting excited and cant wait to see my new man
Should all adopters send the $35 now? I assume we should that way you have the money from us before you have to pay the vet but just wanted to make sure.
The pasture is fenced in with no climb horse fence but I wondered about the size of the pasture as well. Thats why I left it to you. That sounds just fine. Can't wait to meet the newest member of my little flock:)
Glad you decided to get these guys! It took me a while to decide that I could take one as well. Im not one to rush into things;) But then when there were single ganders still looking for homes I knew I could help. I've always wanted a dewlap and am so happy that I am able to help a rescue! Now...
Yeah I speak in horse...Shown all my life(western pleasure, apps, belgians), family raises Standardbreds, Dad's an equine vet...so that analogy works for me. I was part of a rescue of 38 arabs a few years ago that were in the equivalent condition of these geese. Its A LOT of work and emotion but...
Thanks so much for the pics. And so sad that Ginger arrived an abcess. OUCH! Pete's geese are actually the ones to spark my interest in the dewlaps a few years ago. I am sorry if I made it sound like I thought you were doing a bad job with them or that they were inferior geese. I just wondered...
You should do it:) They geese wont protect the ducks but my ducks learned to take cover when the geese would "raise the alarm." The gander eventually adopted the ducks as his and then he was definatly protective. That gander will also protect the chickens so maybe he has a thing for small fowl:)...
I feel like a total heel asking this but my experience lies with Sebastopols...These toulouse don't seem to have the big dewlaps and extreme deep keel that I am used to seeing in this breed. Is this just they're type or lack of weight? If its a weight issue will that develope as they continue to...
You guys are a bad influence!
Iain why didn't the local ppl end up taking any geese? And can u email me some info on the adoption process and shipping info when u have time? [email protected] No hurry, but it would be helpful in deciding if I can do this. I would probably only be able to...
I agree with Marty:) I have been following this thread from the beginning and have been so tempted by the grey ganders. Right now I have Sebbies (I'm kind of a home for the old and infertile) but have always wanted a big dewlap toulouse. Oh the temptation...
Is it safe to ship in this heat? I am just across the ohio line in Indiana so they wouldn't be in the mail too long. I would be interested in eggs or chicks.
