my outdoor quail STILL aren't laying. The indoor ones (inside my actual house) are laying about once a day. the outdoor quail have same food, water, get extra light (via a light bulb that comes on when it gets dark, so they do have 14+ hours) a much bigger living space in ratio to the indoor...

They have at least that, or close to it I am sure. I may even try to move them to a better location. Morning to noonish sun, break for an hour or two from a tree blocking, and then another five or so hours of sun.

mine are so much fun. I had one golden get into a squabble that s/he didn't heal from. I had to cull that one, and one definite male coturnix got culled as well. NONE of the others are crowing...yet none are laying either. So I might be lucky and have no more males...or have males that have...

I have a question...my chickens like it when I give them clods of grass and dirt to scratch through. Keeps them busy and entertained. Would quail like something like this too? Or what else to try to keep them busy?

Will fertile quail eggs have the same "bullseye" that chicken eggs do?

Yay, then! I am getting my rabbit hutch that I can retrofit for the quail this weekend. I am so psyched!! THe kids have been wanting this project for awhile, and I am so excited to be able to do this with them.

So if I understand right, I don't have to provide perches in their enclosure? What about maybe some small plants to hide in if they feel threatened? At what age do they start laying? I understand that they are mature at 6 weeks...yes?
