Loving all these chickie pictures!
We have two hatched out, we'll see about the remaining 3. No pips yet.
Here is our first hatcher, an Ameracauna x Australorp:
Aaand a little family collage:
We've got a zipper! This one's ahead of the game.
4 more to go.. 2 are rocking and rolling for sure. It's a quarter past midnight here but I can't sleep, this is just too exciting!
Cheering on all the rest of the HAL chickies!
5 Ameraucana/Australorp eggs in lockdown. We decided to downsize our hatch – even so we'll be bursting at the seam with chickens this spring/summer! That chicken math sure adds up quick..
Hello everyone! A quick update on our HAL eggs: All 10 grocery store eggs turned out to be unfertilized, surprise surprise. :P So we just discarded those 10 along with 4 RIR/Australorp crosses and 1 Ameraucana/Australorp cross. So now we're left with 12 strong embryos! I'm most excited for the 5...
All set!! Total count: 26 eggs set. 16 barnyard mix and 10 possibly fertilized grocery store eggs. I don't have such high hopes for those store eggs, just wanted to experiment. Happy hatching everyone!
A question just popped into my mind: we only get about 5-6 eggs a day but are hoping to set 24, can we collect for a few days leading up to March 5 and set aside the ones we want to put in the bator? And do we just leave them in a carton at room temp? Hmm
I'm throwing my feathered cap into the ring.. We've just hatched our first chickie and I think we're ready to get serious with this thing! Nothing fancy here: just barnyard crosses (Australorp roo + RIR, SLW, & an Ameraucana)
First chick of many, I hope!
Side note: We really don't know...
