Flock slowly being wiped out - possibly mareks??

So very sorry to hear that. I know how heart breaking that is, especially after you had given her so much tlc Let's hope this is the end of a bad spell and things will go smoothly from now on.

Delighted to hear that. Thanks so much for the update.

Flock slowly being wiped out - possibly mareks??

I meant that she would be dehydrated from the cocci prior to you commencing the supportive care you are now giving. I think you are doing the right thing in giving her only liquid feed and that will certainly help to rehydrate her but short of tube feeding her fluids or IV, I think it will just...

Flock slowly being wiped out - possibly mareks??

@centrarchid I agree entirely and was not specifically having a pop at the USA. It's just that the majority of people on this site seem to be in the US and talk about getting antiBs from the feedstore like buying a supplement and don't seem to realise that they are not always readily...

Flock slowly being wiped out - possibly mareks??

Here in the UK we can't just go out and buy antibiotics (not even antibiotic cream), like you can in the states, so treating a chicken with them will involve a trip to the vets and therefore they are much less likely to be used unnecessarily, I think. It is worrying how many people here on this...

So relieved that the lab report indicated a definitive cause and you now have a course of action. Hope Gloria continues to "survive" until the medication kicks in and there is no permanent damage to her system. Keep us posted on her progress please..

Flock slowly being wiped out - possibly mareks??

Thanks for birthday wishes. Wish I could do more on the "help" front but it sounds like you are doing a good job there.. I use about a tablespoon of ACV (I have it in a squeezy bottle and just add a splosh) in their gallon plastic waterer for the whole flock but they do also have access to...

Flock slowly being wiped out - possibly mareks??

I change the water every day, scrub out the drinker and put a tablespoon of Apple cider vinegar in the fresh water but my chickens free range during the day and I often see them drinking from the filthiest puddles and they don't suffer problems from it, so I'm really not convinced that changing...

Flock slowly being wiped out - possibly mareks??

My horse worm egg count samples are done incredibly quickly and I've had texted results the day after I sent them off quite frequently, which I think is amazing service. Not sure how long the cocci testing would take but I would expect it to be no less than a week and probably just a couple of...

Flock slowly being wiped out - possibly mareks??

Pleased to hear she is looking a little brighter and eating. Your previous description suggested that they were hunched and not interested in food or maybe it's just the way I read it.. I wonder if your friend just doesn't realise they are sick until it's too late and they are then beyond...

Flock slowly being wiped out - possibly mareks??

Hi I have Marek's in my flock and my experience of it is quite different, so I'm not totally convinced this is what your friend's flock is suffering from. Whilst Marek's can cause them to die quickly sometimes without any warning, the most common symptom is for them to show some paralysis...
