The pullet I have that lays from the roost bars also lays outside in the middle of the yard. There are plenty of nest boxes - I don't think its about competition.
She's just finishing a molt now and hasn't laid in 5-6 wks so I'll be curious to see where she lays once she starts up again. Her...
They are outside most of the day so not too crowded - lots of roost bar space. Multiple feed and water stations. Lots of calcium. Right now I have a bunch of chicks so everyone is on higher protein crumble as they are all eating the same feed.
I'm thinking there is an 'internal issue'. I had...

Update:
Since I first posted in April nothing has changed. She is not laying a lot and when she does the eggs are very thin shelled (not soft shelled) and are often broken as she lays them from the height of the roost bar (or today, out in the yard). I sometimes find an egg broken on the coop...

It seems a bit odd that she'd lay an egg at 6:30am while standing on the roost bar.
I'll increase her calcium intake and see if the shells thicken...
have a 9 month old pullet who has been laying regularly. For the past couple of weeks I've found broken eggs on the coop floor. I was assuming there was an egg eater in the coop who had knocked them out of the nest box.
Then I realized she was laying them on the coop floor. A couple of days...
