I have a hen raising 4 chicks right now. No heat lamp. They are about 2 and a half weeks now. The chicks don't seem to have any problem at all with the cold and mama brought them outside into the run at 3 days old. I think maybe because they are running around the run all day. I just make sure...

Tractor Supply in Shelbyville is having a swap this weekend until 2pm. Also, Rural King in Shelbyville is trying out Fall chick sales right now with Isa Browns and Cornish Rocks. They were super nice and let me get only 3 Isa Browns. Nice little workshop there this weekend by the Nutrena rep. Fun!

Does anyone know of anyone that processes chickens? I was sure it would be easy to find someone, but I've had no luck at all and my chickens are getting LARGE! We have never done it and don't have the time right now. A pro or someone that does their own and might be interested in a few extra...

I just hatched 4 BBS chicks also. 3 are boys. Luckily my first batch were all pullets. I'll probably rehome one. I wouldn't think you'd have a problem rehoming those guys. Blue and splash are still really popular. If I get a splash in the future I might try breeding with my chocolates and try...

Hi, wasn't sure exactly who you were responding to, but I'm in Taylorsville, about 8 minutes outside Mt. Washington. Nice to finally see some people from the area! I think only 2 of my Maran eggs are viable, but I may have some extra Lavender Ameraucanas in a few days and possibly some extra...

I'm in Taylorsville too. Are you in town or furthur out? Kentucky has a great climate for most any breed of chicken. You may have to watch the heat when it shoots over 100. Plenty of water and a fan. And straight combed chickens may need a coating of petroleum jelly on their combs when it gets...
