Maybe you should get her a box with higher sides. If she gets out and you don't see her she could get injured. I bet you will miss them when they are gone! It's nice you have a good friend with a place for them to go when you can't keep them any more.
Chicks will sometimes do that but it isn't good for Tortilla especially as she isn't walking good right now. You don't want to separate them totally. Maybe try putting a little screen up or something so they can get close to each other but Salsa won't step on Tortilla. Nothing permanent just for...
Could you post a picture of her foot please? Click here to read an old thread about curled toes. Try making a cardboard shoe for Tortilla by taking a piece of cardboard and straightening the chick's toes out on it and taping them on with the sticky part of a bandaid. BTW like Salsa's name :)
Ok, that's good. Yeah, they can go about three days without food and water, but I like to give it to them by day 2 if possible because I find they do better then (the water especially is important).
I had some chicks hatch I believe around the same time as yours! I didn't know it though, they...
Congrats! That's wonderful! Are they eating and drinking? Also, please post a picture of Tortilla's umbilical cord if possible. I'd like to see that because it could get infected if she has been having problems.
Awww! So cute! Love the name, now you've got to figure out if it is actually a girl. Is the other egg hatching? BTW figured out I am two hours ahead of you. Now I am not so confused!
Sounds like the umbilical cord is still attached. It should come off by itself. What time is it for you right now? I'm trying to figure out how many hours ahead I am so I know how long ago 12:33 pm is. Please post a picture when you can!!
Thick and white is normal. The chick isn't ready to hatch quite yet. After it finishes sucking up the yolk and blood it will be clear and come out. Let me know how it goes!
I'm in a different time zone than you so I don't know how long that would be. You could peel of a little shell right now, just try not to damage the membrane. Also note if it is thin and clear or thick and white.
The chick is probably just soaking up the rest of the yolk and blood and will zip soon. If you want, peel off a little shell but don't damage the membrane underneath. I might wait another hour before helping though. Let me know how it goes!
