The light never worked in mine, but I could live with that. I had the same trouble with chicks falling in the gaps so I rolled up paper towels to block the gaps. Regardless, not thrilled with the unit!!:(

I had this incubator and I was not thrilled with it mostly because the "works" were on the bottom. It was difficult to keep clean and it did not have ventilation holes. I suppose I could have drilled a couple of holes in the lid, but I gave it a friend. Nevertheless, it was a cool looking incubator.
