If you have the room, fence off an area where the chickens range at and put a small shelter in it for them to sleep. Leave them in it for about a week then open fence up and let them mingle. The older chickens are always going to peck at the younger ones but this makes integrating new chickens...- SowdersHomestead

FYI Rural King in Tiffin has Brown Leghorns SR for 50 cents. I picked up a dozen of em and the rest of the buff orp. They had another 20 left. My wife wouldn't let m take them all since I have Delawares coming next week.- SowdersHomestead

FYI, Rural King has started their chic days. The one in Tiffin has RIR and Cal Grey Leghorn Pullets ($1.99) and Barred Rock and Buff Orpingtons Straight Runs ($1.39). They also have Pekin and Khaki Ducks for $4.99. Had to restrain myself.- SowdersHomestead

The ones that piped all hatched. No I did not candle. Never have but I have read up on how to doit. I'm assuming lockdown is day 18 til hatch. There is no humidistat with this bator. Although I have an old humidor that has one. I could use that. Thanks- SowdersHomestead

Well I have done 2 hatches so far and have only a 25% hatch ration. The first hatch I did not expect much because I do want any other man would do the first time. Turn brooder on and throw in eggs. I go to Detroit once a month and always stop in at Cabela's. Their taxadermy is out of this world. So now I can go to a poultry auction and Cabela's all in one shot. Just a little slice of heaven. I'm hoping to pick up about a dozen Deleware hens and a roo. If not I'll have to get chicks...- SowdersHomestead

OMG!!! We got the 2013 Meyer Hatchery catalog and my son saw the Blue Ameraucana and want's one NOW. I tried to explain that hatcheries don't start hatching again until March.
