Aww, sorry about your lousy luck, please hang in there and don't give up. I had a tough beginning also but we weathered it and it is definitely worth it. After we worked out all of the kinks we have had so much fun and enjoyment from our little chicken empire. Good luck!!

Yes, yes...the hot weather must be it. My favorite hen (buff orp..Sunny D) is broody now and I am not sure what to do. Do I just leave her alone or break this cycle? She is in my coop with all of my other birds, she is just hogging the nesting box and is very moody. I've been taking her eggs...

Yeah that is terrible when it happens, a fox cleaned me out last summer, I was left with 1 lone hen. I feel for you. My son sat up in his treehouse for days and eventually was able to take out the fox when he came back for my last one. That fox used the same method. He killed them and left them...

S Same here. We are in Columbus and my birds are confused! Yesterday there was not a bit of snow on the ground. They have been out free-ranging every day for a week, today I opened the coop door and they were quite shocked! they managed to stop themselves in mid-jump before they made contact...

I drove there to pick up my order on Jan 21-I got lucky and was able to add buff silkies and white crested polish to my order from the over-hatch! They had alot more fun and intersting breeds also. Was tempted to take one of everything.

I am in Fairfield county and my coop is not insulated, we did wrap plastic around the open-air part of the coop and put straw bales around the 3 sides that get the most weather. when I checked on them about 2 hours ago they seemed pretty cozy. The inside of the coop does not feel especially...
