That's a wonderful thing! The youth at our church raise money for Heifer International every year. My kids are finally getting to the age where they understand it and were really into it this year.

Does anyone know where to get broad breasted turkeys in NEO? I have a friend who's looking to replace some they lost. I offered to pick up from Meyer next month when I pick up chickens, but Meyer doesn't have any available. Any ideas?

You can pick up pullets. We live a little over an hour from there and that's where we got our first set of started pullets. You have to call to find out availability.

Had a hen rip off one of her nails today. She was fine this morning and missing a nail and bleeding this afternoon. Not sure how she did it. I couldn't find anything unusual in the coop or run. Thankfully after a search on here I was able to get it to stop bleeding. She seems fine now, not...

Q for all of you. I have a chicken that keeps going broody (January and again already). I'm afraid to put her in a wire cage in the coop due to the temps and don't want to separate her from the flock for that long. I take her out of the nesting box 4-5 times a day and make sure all of the...

I have only bathed pullets, but do it in a utility sink filled with warm water and a little dawn. Just enough to cover their back. Not sure about bathing chicks. Can you but a dust bath area in for them? Are they different looking because they are starting to feather out?

Check around for grain elevators and make some calls. We drive down to Mt Eaton elevator a couple of times a year. It's a long drive so we stock up for a few months when we go. It's much much cheaper than buying organic from TSC or any of the farm stores in our area.

I haven't donated to a food pantry, but I have donated to the women's shelter in our area. They always welcome any donations. You could always call churches that have food pantries and ask.

A layer should get .25# per day. 15 layers should eat just under 4# a day, but that's for adults. Not sure how much chicks eat since I started with pullets.

ketcham- I always save some dry leaves in the fall. I throw some into the run when we have snow to help coax the girls out for a little while. Has worked every time.

We make the drive to Maysville Elevator a few times a year and buy large quantities of organic feed so that we don't have to make the drive too often. I know organic is special order and way too expensive at stores around Medina. The drive is worth the savings if we only go every 4 months or...

Golden Comets are my favorite layers so far. They are great layers and very clam and sweet.

Last year we had straw/shavings mix on the floor and shavings in the nesting box. I cover the vent on the south side of the coop and just have the eve vents on the north side. There wasn't any draft last year. I also have a heated pet bowl in the coop (ran the cord through pvc so no one pecks...

Is there a SPCA in the area? I'm sure they would have something to say about conditions like that.

"Question for all you Buckeyes! I am new to chickens (39 chicks in April) Any suggestions on how to keep the chickens cool? They have plenty of water, but they are just panting and panting. Big run 20 x 20 enclosed with hardware cloth from top to bottom." You could also freeze some ice...

There aren't any reasonable organic feed suppliers near us. We drive to Mt. Eaton to get it. There's a small discount for paying by cash or check. There's a farm in West Salem that has it on occasion, but our chickens rarely laid when we fed them that feed. The drive to Mt. Eaton is worth it...
