    YO GEORGIANS! :)

Good luck to you. If you find out you can’t have chickens try to petition for it. We recently had a successful petition about the new chicken rules here in Effingham County and we got the commission to agree to 1 rooster and 4 hens in the R1 residential zone. Roosters will be dealt with on an...

I don’t recall if there is anyone in the group in that area. I’m near Savannah myself. You might try to find a group on Facebook. You just have to be careful not to say buy or sell on there. In my area there are groups for the city and the surrounding counties.

I’m near Savannah and I’m not doing anything different. Last year we got down to 16 degrees or so and my chickens were chilly but fine. I only worry if it stays below freezing for a few days or is very windy or wet, I have Naked Necks though. Fully feathered chickens are fine for more sustained...

You will have to post in those state threads too. I am near the SC border so I follow that thread along with this one.

I think all you can do is wait and keep them warm while they absorb the rest of it. Check through the incubating and hatching section of the forums for some advice.

I don’t think so but I’m not an expert. I’ve had more early hatches than late. You might ask in the incubation forum and see what others think.

I think that would probably be ok but it might be safer to start lockdown on Friday afternoon.

I ordered chicks from Welp so now I have an abundance of 1-month-old naked neck cockerels if anyone is interested in trying the breed. I really love them and I’d like more people to love them too. :) I will have some of the dark colored pullets available after my friend picks hers out. I am...

Those are good choices. I’ve had cream Legbars, Leghorns, and Rocks and they all did well here. Vitamins, yes. No to the beak trimming! It’s permanent and will make it harder for them to pick up food or forage. I always get mine vaccinated for Mareks. It’s a painful disease and I would hate my...

I can’t remember if I posted about this here but I had some sick chickens and I decided to get one tested. It was positive for mg, ms, & coryza. ☹️ I decided to cull the whole flock and start over with healthy birds after waiting 8 weeks. (Recommended by the GPL since I free range and can’t...

Watch the Americauna for heat problems. With a small pea comb and small wattles they aren’t well suited for the heat. I know many do “fine” but in my experience they look like they are suffering from the heat more than some other breeds.

Bantams are super cute but we eat our extra chickens so bantams aren’t as useful for us.

That sounds a lot smaller than I’d like. I’m looking for a barred rock size or larger.
