My rooster is ugly! Im 99% sure he is molting. He has no long saddles,He has 1 long tail feather left, all the others are little nubs with tiny green pieces sticking out.and a few other small ugly splotches. I've never seen him molt this bad before. Poor guy went from prince charming to the ugly...

I can't really tell you about the wandering because my 2 are still in the grow out pen. I would normally let them out by now (15 weeks) but since there are only 2 I want them to be full grown or almost there. But what I can tell you is they are awesome little birds and there are now bugs living...

could just be a genetic thing that wasn't apparent in the parent stock. Or a prob in the egg.

lol its a golden laced wyandotte. I love them but this one has a lot of red on the too of its back and a couple other have a bit of red showing too. And I know my roo has tons of red there. Not sure about hens cause I've never had GLW girls

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

I'm worried about this one( and a couple more I couldn't catch).... it has more red on its back than the other ones... hen or roo? I didn't worry about getting the comb in the pic because all their combs look the same.

It might be a Cornish X. They get big really fast and at 10 weeks normally have health issues because they are normally harvested for meat by then... I read that you cant get pic to post so if you want to I can PM you my # and i can post it.... I havent finished going through posts so not sure...

Hmmm I know one of my friends had a broody silkie and she fit 10 regular sized eggs under her. But i would say 6-8 to be safe?
  16. JennaLynn122

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

I've never had silkies but ive read on here that they are champs at brooding. Also seen quite a few people with broody buff orps and various other bantams. I have mainly more production breeds so I don't get broodys
  17. JennaLynn122

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

sex links are bred for egg production and the broodiness has been bred out. Broilers usually don't live long enough and also aren't bred for broodiness. Basically any type of hen bred for egg production won't go broody, some still will but most of the time not.... someone correct me if I'm wrong...

The only time I provided heat is after hatch until they are down to room temp. Took about 3 weeks with this group. I just watch them to see if the bundle together or if the spread out and away from the light and judge by that. I keep a thermometer in there just to pay attention to where they are...

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

My 6 week olds are out with no lights right now and it has gotten down that far. I kept a close eye on them but they did amazing. PS- they weaned themselves off the light early, i didnt just throw them off of it fast myself. I let them decided comfortable temp.

I don't think all of them do? Not sure never owned them but mine are GLWxRIR. you still have 1 more day before "full term" sometimes they can take up to 25 days to start hatching.
