She's our most skittish duck. We've tried giving it to her as a treat, but her buddies want it too. When we isolate her, she gets completely freaked out and won't eat. We did get the go-ahead to give it all together, so this evening it will be back to a syringe. Sigh...

We can mix all three, but boy is it a challenge. Not going terribly well...

Thanks so much for your help, @Miss Lydia ! The black flies are gone now--just a spring thing, and they are usually not too bad here on the coast. That's one reason this whole thing is so strange.

She had an off day Saturday, according to our ducksitter, but she bounced back Sunday and was looking herself upon our return Monday. Starting her meds today. Thanks for asking! :-)

You've likely noted the very high copper reading. We've switched them onto city water until we can test out well again.

We'll hopefully go over the results with our vet later today. The state vet said the following: "it is suggestive of a fungal or bacterial septicemia. We saw no indication of leukocytozoan forms in the tissues, although these would be better detected via a blood smear."

We are still trying to decide if we are going to treat everyone, test everyone and just treat those with the parasite or just treat Mouse. Hopefully our vet will provide some guidance on this when we get the pyrimethamine.

Good News: Piglet's avian influenza swab came back negative. We'll have the rest of his tests back tomorrow or Friday. Hopefully we can confirm leucocytozoonosis was the underlying issue that caused his death. We're still waiting for the pharmacy to get us the pyrimethamine. Mouse continues to...

Leucocytozoon is an avian blood parasite transmitted by black flies. It usually affects younger birds (I think that has to do with feather coverage). Our understanding is that the state vet and our vet have not seen a lot (any?) of it locally, but we did have a worse than normal black fly season...
