    Shes in San Diego county closer to the coast than I am. a bit cooler than here but only a few degrees. Eves on our houses are longer to help with the sun exposure. I have stepped outside and found the temperature NO different from shade to sun. deb

    I want to say this... to add to the thread.... There are two things I am going to learn once I get back to raising poultry... or any animal really. First and foremost is how to do a fecal test.... sounds yukky but if you understand the process its straight forward... I have had horses...

    Pretty much the same here... Arthritis... Though If I suspected some pathogen... I am fortunate in that in California I can send off to UC Davis for necropsy... ONly costs postage. deb

    Any that get names get buried... I have never lost to illness. Though predators where I am do get more than their share. But showing respect and dignaty is part of good husbandry... My grandpa was a share cropper pets werent allowed... Rules for the kids... Chickens got fed cows got...

    cickiada... my place is in the high desert near Baja.... i make my coops out of Chainlink Dog kennel panels... with a wind break on the windward side. Tarpes over the top to protect from snow ... Then pull down tarps on the winter wind side... Everyone does quite well as long as...

    Rendering plants are often operated in conjuction with Slaughter houses... or poultry processing houses. They process for meat bone and fat.... The bones go on to make geletin.... And eventually bone meal... The meat goes into dog food... and fat goes on to soap or candle making...

    Since I primarily am interested in Guinea Fowl. I was considering at one time rather than plucking, skinning.... A whole pelt processed can be sold to fly tie people.... so I went on some Taxidermy sites... Oh wow what a process. Last time I looked The fly tying sites sold whoole pelts...
