Yes, thanks!! Once the whole unit is placed on the ground it won’t be steep. :)

    Contractor sand for dust bath

We had a brief outing today! Not much picking, they were nervous, but so stinking cute! This weekend we are placing the coop on the ground (it is still on the 4x4s) and I hope to predator proof it soon. Until then, supervised excursions only. :)

    Contractor sand for dust bath

If it warms up any today, I’m going to let them into the outside pen area. It is still on grass, I’m sure they’ll love that! I hope it gets above 60 degrees today. We’re in a cold snap - too early for me!

    Contractor sand for dust bath

I would be out there with them. I wouldn’t let them be out unattended. I’ll start taking them out there when the sun is out.

    Contractor sand for dust bath

They’ve been out there for a week. It’s chilly during the day - in the 50s. I thought that would be too cold for them to go outside??

    Contractor sand for dust bath

I have them in a coop (6’x6’). I bought contractor sand at Lowe’s. It doesn’t seem too coarse. I can add peet moss to it. Dust is not an issue. Is there a benefit to start now - or should I wait until they start to go outside?

    Contractor sand for dust bath

I have contractor sand for my three week old chicks dust bathing. Do I need to do anything to prepare the sand and do I have to add DE or dirt?
