Well - it's official Snowy has begun crowing at his new home. So the grand total is 9 hatched with 3 girls and 6 boys. I'm pretty sure my last one from the hatch laid her first egg yesterday, so I'm going to say the panel is closed. :)
That's what I've struggled with, the white is so hard to see. I've ended up with darker colored cockerels that were super easy to see the saddle feathers. All my other roosters have been crowing and trying to mount the hens.
Well - Now I am thinking I was wrong about Snowy/Omelet. "She" mounted one of my ameraucana today and not in a "i'm gonna pluck you bald" kinda way.... 22 weeks old and a pretty decent sized comb. The thing about Snowy is that mom was a Light Brahma and dad was a Lavender Ameraucana/EE... so...
I know, right? I did read somewhere that 50/50 seemed to be the rough breakdown, but it sure seems like more. Coco really is a sweet boy. The same person who adopted him and Una are adopting Scrappy-Doo and Chickpea (my two polish). I'm quite happy that they are going to good homes too...
I decided to go ahead and update this just for kicks. The crows are in and the results are as follows:
Eggs Benedict -Cockerel
Coco - Cockerel
Lavender (now known as Olivander) - Cockerel
Scrappy- Cockerel
Pepper-Jack - Cockerel
Una- Pullet
Sunnyside Up - Pullet
Omelet (I call her Snowy now...
So - just out of curiosity for Una - (I ultimately don't really care too much if dad isn't a full Ameraucana because I'm not really selling or showing the birds) - As she doesn't have the pea comb - does that mean she won't be laying blue/green eggs? As Coco is a roo and they have been best...
I've sent a request for a picture to my friend. I've never met the bird, but I do know he's a well aged guy. I knew the pea comb was dominate but I was reading that it was not completely dominate.
also I just want to be really really sure there is zero chance that Coco is a pullet right? I've found a good home for him (way easier than I thought) but today while I was out in the coop and spending a little extra loving with him (he likes to sit on my lap), I decided to "tickle" under his...
As far as Una goes - she came out of a dark brown egg of a Cuckoo Marans and the only rooster my friend has is a Lavender Ameraucana. So would that mean that the Roo isn't a straight Lav. Ameraucana but a Lavender EE instead?
The copper seems to be mainly across the wings. When I locked the door to their run I flipped her upside down and bottom of her feet are actually yellow.
I don't think they are pink. They are kinda greyish whitish I think like the rest of her leg color. I did not know that Marans usually have feathered legs.
Thanks so much for all your feedback. I'm slowly learning how to spot things. This is my first time with hatched chicks that didn't come from a hatchery marketed as Pullets (save for Marian) so it's a whole new ball game for me. Benedict I am pretty sure was a boy (thus he was name Eggs...
Pictures Part Two:
Lavender (Unknown mother though we know she is a product of a previous cross with a Lav. Ameraucana and a Lav Ameraucana dad) 11-12 weeks:
Benedict (same parents as Una from the first picture post) 11-12 weeks old:
And that is it. Thanks for any help you can...
