    She should live without it, but I've found that it works so well in helping them heal and rebound that I will use it again. I used to say I would never use injectable antibiotics, but after using them I realized they exist for a reason.

    Are you willing to give her shots of antibiotics for a few days? In my experience, my hen is recovering much faster with Penicillin.

    I didn't either. My local farm and fleet carried it. Agriculture stores should, big livestock owners use it. Look up a pic of prolapsed vent and compare. Is she actively bleeding?

    Put a latex glove on, some petroleum jelly or similar, insert finger and feel for an egg. Do not go more than 2 inches in. I'm not sure if Vetrycin can be used around the vent. I think so, since it's a very gentle cleanser. Personally, I believe Penicillin is a better option. But it has to be...

    Can you post some pictures? Have you felt for an egg? Does her vent feel red and swollen/infected? What antibiotics (not topical) do you have?
