Thank you. I did get one egg this morning. The broody duck is still sitting on her eggs. She has about 16 days to go before the hatching date. I don't know if she can manage to hatch the eggs, but last year she did get a couple of eggs to the point I could see the baby ducks inside. I've...

Yes, I know there's an outbreak of bird flu. However, I'm not too worried about that. Bird flu is contangious if your flock comes into contact with droppings from a wild bird that has the bird flu. It's kind of like heartworm in dogs—you have to have an infected dog, a mosquito bite that dog...

Thank you, Miss Lydia. If I combine this with the fact we disrupted their routine, it's probably to be expected. I'll just try to be patient!

I am in Casper, Wyoming. The person who fed them was from Casper and she feed them the same food they are feed by me.

I'm sure I've seen this question before, but my four muscovy females all stopped laying eggs about 3 weeks ago. They were doing fine and then stopped. There were some disruptions—we were out of town and had someone come feed them and they were not allowed to free range during this time...

I had posted a picture of my muscovy under my shed: She had gone under there last summer to lay eggs and hide them. This morning, we went out to check on the ducks and two were missing. One appeared to be hiding under the shed, so hubby attempted to extract her. Unfortunately, said duck...

These are my muscovies doing the "head bobbing" ritual they do every time they go into their pen, come out of their pen, etc. It's cute. The deer are not tame, but do come close to the house. They can be quite bothersome to run off when they don't want to leave, though. I don't feed them...

Miss Lydia: Thank you! There were about eight in the yard yesterday. They like my watering hole (small pond)!

Mine started laying three days ago. They were laying last year at this time, when I bought them, so I have no idea how early they would "normally" lay. Here are a couple of pictures of the ducks: They are very pretty green and black this time of the year.

I took a couple of pictures this morning and I think you may be right—it's just a natural change. He seemed better this morning. He ran out and staked out the garden shelter as "his" immediately, so there may be some pecking order sorting going on too. I'm keeping an eye on all of them...

Poult: Yes, I'm sure he's a male. He has the red caruncles on his face and he's twice the size of the females. Which makes it interesting that he appears to be afraid of them now. I've had the six together for most a year with no problems. He started having the ruffled feathers about 2 or 3...

I have five female muscovies and one male. I have begun to suspect the females are beating up the male. The feathers on the back of his neck are messed up and he didn't wnat to go in the greenhouse with the females tonight. My husband said that earlier the females were in the shelter in the...

I'm putting a picture of my hubby "herding" the Muscovies back to their greenhouse from the garden. They are very well-trained. This morning, I opened the garden gate and the greenhouse door, then went back to the house for more water and when I returned, there were the Muscovies in the garden...

More duck tracks in the snow! And here are the scovies out in the garden. They actually came out of the greenhouse on their own this morning. Could have been my small dog running around that attracted them. Usually, I have to go into the greenhouse and shoo them out. It's sunny today...

I'm putting this on the muscovy thread since my muscovies are the "artists" here! I noticed they were making interesting tracks in the garden. If you've seen these before, forgive me, I've just not had ducks over the winter and it's all new and fascinating to me! Top photo is the...

I don't think there's any treatment for avian flu. It's a virus, just like the flu in people. Antibiotics might stop a secondary infection, but it won't stop the flu virus.

That's why I was saying that I didn't think you were being mean. I wanted to let you know that even some muscovy owners don't necessarily think the ducks are cute. Buck and you seem to have sorted things out, so it's all well now.

Crazy4Fowl: I thought Muscovies were ugly and am still leaning in that direction with my male. I wouldn't consider you mean for your observation. I now really like my ducks because they are so quiet and well-behaved. To be honest, I got the Muscovies because they were the only ducks I could...

There is a noticeable difference between the wild and domestic muscovies, though the colors are similar. Wild muscovies have an odd-looking head to me, anyway. With mallards, there really is no difference. Metzger Farms and many other hatcheries remove a back toe from the ducklings to...
