Look for a pea comb. If she is an Easter Egger rather than an Ameracauna (95 ish % of them are) there is a good chance that one egg gene could be brown rather than blue. If she was sold to you as an Americauna (with an i) the odds go up even higher. Many hatcheries throw that "i" in there as a...
Mine have laid between 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 months, but I'm in CA! I bet it's what you're saying about her hatching in the summer and she's just holding out for more light and warmer weather. It helps that she's pretty!
I would think the ones that turned out green would be pretty pale, not "olive." Most people use a darker layer for the brown like a Marans or Welsummer. I'd like to see pics if you try it!
I got one from My Pet Chicken. I was very happy with her. Oh, she wasn't straight run though, not sure if they do that. I ordered pullets. She was blue, very pretty. I have gorgeous pullets from her now who I crossed with My Marans. The ones who lay olive have some great shades!
Hello, not sure which breed of roos you were asking about? Were you directing the question to a specific person? There are many breeds that can be used to produce olive eggers. Marans, Welsummers, Ameracaunas, and Legbars are common. Personally, I've seen very gentle and very aggressive out of...
Love the name Chicken Fajita! Wow, I've never heard of such a mean hen. My sweet girl seems to be rubbing off on other chickens in her coop. I have several now who walk up and talk to me or fly onto my shoulder every time I enter. They're actually becoming somewhat of a nuisance. It's hard not...
Walked into one of the coops today and one of my young OE's (hopefully, she's not yet laying) jumped onto my shoulder. She is the friendliest chicken I've ever had. The strangest part to me is that her dad turned out to be very mean. I bred him before realizing that when he was pretty young. He...
One of my 4 1/2 month old Olive Eggers is laying! She is OE x Marans. Now to figure out who laid it. Several of them look ready. They're really a lot brighter than they appear here. Need some clouds I think.
Well, they will be sex-linked, which will be awesome! Because your girls are barred, your males will hatch with the white spots on the head and the pullets will not have them. This will work great with the blue roo, but I've heard others say that the splash roos don't produce good sex links...
