F1 olive egger....
cockerel!
He's from a black copper Marans over an EE that lays huge eggs. I was so hoping for a pullet. I might try him with my older OE hen and see if I can get an OE that lays bigger eggs. Yeah, then there are the odds of getting all sorts of colors with that cross.
They are called Super Blue Egg Layers and their eggs tend to be a little darker blue than an Ameraucana.

I picked up a second hand OE and she lays a nice large egg. I was hoping they would be a little darker but they are still pretty.

I think this was from my F5 OE over white leghorn pullet. I...
Really great info! I'm not sure how old it is, at least 10-14 weeks, so not a tiny chick. About half grown, maybe. They are starting to molt, and I noticed the different colored feathers. These OEs all have small combs and I'm used to seeing very large combs so I don't think I'm a good judge...
My F5 OE over BCM "pullet" may just end up being a cockerel. There are some tiny brighter colored feathers coming in around its beak & face, where the baby feathers are mostly black. I'm not quite sure what a hen or roo from those genetics should look like. Any ideas? I'd hate to have to...
So sorry you lost your OE. Hope you can catch the culprit.
Great idea. I can just imagine the raccoons thinking they are getting a chicken dinner and getting a zap on the nose instead. Do you think they can hear the wire when it's live?
