Having similar issues with my pullets I hatched this year, only my olive egger laying out of five girls, and they are 30 weeks! Out of 14, I only have four layers right now, due to molt, too young, not laying yet, etc........But I have hope my other four pullets will start soon, they look ready...
probably the light, not the best lighting in my kitchen for pics. overhead recessed lighting. The egg actually looks better in person, maybe I should take it outside in some natural light or something? Or I could try not obsessing over the color of my chicken's egg! Having our first olive egger...
My OE laid her first egg today! It is lighter than we were hoping for, but since it is her first I'm hoping it will darken up a little. She is either 25 or 26 weeks (can't remember), and the first of her group to lay.
Her's is in the middle front row, between a EE and a BLRW.
In th emiddle...
Such pretty eggs! My OE is 23 weeks now, one of five pullets we hatched but the only OE in the group. No eggs from any of that hatch yet! The ladies are making me impatient. I'm hoping that they lay before winter truly sets in, or I may have to wait until spring.
Beautiful eggs! This season's pullets are 22 weeks, almost 23, and noone is laying yet. I really hope my olive egger has a pretty green egg, hopefully we will know soon!
I have a little chick, about nine weeks old, that was a barnyard cross of purebred parents. We weren't sure of the parentage, but my chick hatched out of a green egg. Now that it is growing out, I'm pretty sure it is a BLRW roo over an ameracuana hen. The chick has a pea comb, no wattles, no...
I love seeing everyone's first olive eggs! My girl is only 18 weeks, and her face needs to pink up some more. Hopefully in the next month she will start laying, and hopefully they will be olive!
I got her to actually sit still for a second, so here are better shots. I'm pretty sure she is a marans roo over an OE hen, she hatched from an olive egg. Anyone have one that looks like her?
My OE, Brooke, is 14 weeks now. She has turned out to be a pretty bird, but very flighty. So the pics are a little blurry! We call her our bald eagle, she has a pea comb, sure hope she lays a pretty olive egg.
Is there any way to tell if your OE pullet is going to lay olive eggs, or do you just have to wait and see? My 8 week old pullet has a pea comb, so hopefully that improves my chances! Here is her updated pic, does anyone have one that looks like her? She is a BCM roo over F1 OE, she did hatch...
Cute! Does look like a pea comb, and only one row so far, so hopefully a pullet for you. Of course, it is a little early to tell, but we knew our roo was a boy at 1 week.
Edited to add comb pic, it does look pea in this pic, so hopefully!
Thanks! Yeah, I don't think he is carrying the gene, just hoping she is. Her comb is ? It is really flat, much flatter than my ee pullets that are the same age. But it should be a pea comb, b/c their should only be either pea...
These are my two little OE's from my recent hatch, they are six weeks old now. They are a Marans roo over a F1 OE (Marans over Blue EE), and I got one roo and one pullet. I sure hope the pullet is carrying the blue gene, hoping for some pretty olive eggs!
roo, Bobby, is looking mostly Marans...
I'm hoping the hopeful pullet has a pea comb, making it a little more likely. She def. does not have a straight comb, but she is still a little young to tell. The little roo's comb is straight, legs are slate under all those feathers, it's a toss up if he carries the blue gene or not. I have to...
