A late reply but I just saw you selling some of your hatching eggs on eBay! I saw the photos and realised...I've seen those birds before
I looked at the other photos and realised that it's also you that recently posted on the Silkies for pets UK Facebook group about your male getting a...
Yep, I'm lucky in the fact that I have a 'monogamous' pair. The male doesn't over breed the female. They act like an old married couple, he sits with her when she lays her eggs :lau
I'm lucky I have such relaxed, careless chickens
This chick is going to be kept as a growout for sure! Oh and the quail too if it's female.
Quite literally falling asleep I need my hand...a busy day for the little chickies!
So today has been a strange one...but a good one!
I let both chicks out of the introduction pen into the run with the adults and there was a few pecks but surprisingly nothing serious.
During all this, Oogy stayed in the coop and began making nests and squatting when I stroked her. Looks like...
It is such a hard choice!
In my last hatch I picked my growouts at 3 weeks and I chose pretty well. However, this time I have a buyer (that came to buy a pullet from my last hatch) who saw them this morning and he wants quite a few of them.
I don't sell my chicks as day olds, I always keep...
So...I somehow managed to hatch a bowl of cornflakes
The seven in the bowl were the first to hatch, the two below took longer!
Now to decide which to keep as growouts...
Indeed she is, at least she's not the only one I guess!
She just doesn't know when to stop. I'd accept her giving them a peck and having a little squabble but she goes full force onto any new bird and attempts to kill them :hmm
Tomorrow I'm taking Oogy out and the two chicks and putting them...
Just going to slide back in here now by saying Oogy (my blue) is an absolute pain in the backside when introducing new birds to the flock.
She's second off bottom in the pecking order but she's the most 'evil'...
She decided to grab Porridge my white chick through the crate bars and rip a huge...
They all appear to be good quality birds there! The male has the correct colour wattles and comb too. Red combs and wattles tend to be a more common fault in gold Silkies but it's good your boy has the mulberry.
Are your Silkies bantam or large Fowl? :)
The gold on the photo you posted looks to be of a nice quality and colour. That colour gold is accepted for showing. Although, both light and dark gold can be shown.
Are you wanting them darker just for personal preference?
As I say, golds are not something I've really worked on nor do I know...
