Hi! Thanks for checking. One got sick and had a couple big lesions over her eye and on her mouth, she seems to be doing better though. I think that maybe after all the eyelid swelling may have been caused by bug bites (mosquitos? I'm not sure). Otherwise they're doing great! Had some chicks...
Yes they are, as is the swelling. Her activity's increasing also, so I think she's getting better! I'm always monitoring and just went to an information meeting by cdfa at the local library. She's not laying eggs but she just started molting (none of the others are) so it's understandable...
Hi. Just today I read an article in my local newspaper saying that the first case of Newcastle's has been detected in my town and on a street that's not too far from me. It seems like this week has had an abundance of problems, I just discovered that the RIR from the first picture was eating...
Southern California. It's hot here but I've never had any chickens (this one include last summer) experience such lethargy from heat. Plus, it's not even that bad of a year. Will isolating her help since the rest of the flock has already been exposed? I seem to be seeing this eyelid swelling on...
She is worse again. The bumps have gotten bigger and blacker (with more blood on them) and her eyelids appear swollen? She did not jump off the roost this morning. The panting and fast breathing has gone away, but the complete lack of interest in food and any sorts of activity is back. The one...
Update: This sav-a-chick stuff really seems to work! The BO's up and about today, still lagging a bit but was foraging with the flock. She did not jump up to the roost today (didn't yesterday either) but was much more responsive. Thinking she's on the way to full recovery. Thanks a lot guys!
I think I found her poo. Looks normal but another chicken had an orange watery poo. Also pics of the way she stands/sits next to the water (if her position will be able to tell you anything). I'll see if I can find sav-a-chick. Yeah, that makes sense.
Okay, will follow your advice aart. She's the most affected, the other birds are panting too but are not lethargic and are still eating normally. The RIR laid an egg today.
Yes, I am in SoCal. It has been in the high 90's. This morning I found the BO sitting next to the nesting boxes (but not in them) When she flew down, she was very unstable on her legs and kind of landed on her chest. She ate a little this morning, but not as much as she normally does, just a few...
Alright, the other hen appears to be much weaker. Here are pics of her head to confirm if she has fowl pox also (pictures are of both sides of her head):
Those bumps near her eyes, are those it? Also, she is not foraging with the flock and when I pick her up and set her down again she just sits...
Okay, thanks! That's good to hear. I think another hen is developing the same symptoms, on a lesser degree but I'll still keep an eye on both of them. At least they'll never get it again, once they're immune. Will the whole flock be immune even if they don't develop bumps? With this particular...
Okay, thank you. It looks like she has external pox. So, separate for a few weeks to prevent cross contamination? (or does it not matter because they've already been exposed?) I'm going to wipe some triple-antibiotic on the sores.
