How often do chickens get keel injuries? Or maybe my girl has botulism?

Thank you so much. It really was a hard decision. You're right, she did know I loved her. :hugs Her expression towards me became so soft and affectionate during this. Which makes the end so equally difficult and relieving. Such is life...a delicate balance of all things involved. ❤❤

How often do chickens get keel injuries? Or maybe my girl has botulism?

Boohoo!!! :hit I found the break in Louise's leg and it's really bad. And she's too far gone now to help her. I'm sending her off with love. ❤ Thank you everyone for all your help with Louise. I truly appreciate it. I wish so much this outcome could've been different. But I've learned ALOT in...

How often do chickens get keel injuries? Or maybe my girl has botulism?

Thank you. I'm hoping I'm doing what she needs. But she is failing. ☹ Thank you for the link as well. It's promising to be able to keep at least most of one's flock after Marek's. I'll be keeping a close eye on the others for the next...well probably forever, if I'm being truthful. ☺

How often do chickens get keel injuries? Or maybe my girl has botulism?

I saw this article too. It seems to say that males get kinky back from growth rate issues and females get it from bacterium. I'm wondering if it's something like meningitis in people?

How often do chickens get keel injuries? Or maybe my girl has botulism?

If Louise does have kinky back is there anything I need to do with/for my other chickens? I can't seem to find this info online. It says it's from bacterium. Does that mean I have to do something about bacteria in my coop? Or do I have one unlucky girl to get/develop it? Thanks so much for...

How often do chickens get keel injuries? Or maybe my girl has botulism?

Yes I've done quite a bit of reading on Marek's. I'm not ruling it out. But I am hoping it's not that as I'm not at all happy to cull my beautiful and healthy flock. ☹ I love them so much. But I do know that there are a large number of other diseases and ailments that look alot like Marek's. I'm...

How often do chickens get keel injuries? Or maybe my girl has botulism?

I'm starting to think that it may be a spinal injury. She went from limping to paralysis in almost hours. I found her limping late one afternoon and then by the morning she was really affected on the right side. Then by night the same day she wasn't walking anymore and basically paralyzed with...

How often do chickens get keel injuries? Or maybe my girl has botulism?

This is very possible as she's always pushing herself on her tail and she's got a very "U" shaped neck at the base of her neck after the injury.

How often do chickens get keel injuries? Or maybe my girl has botulism?

Argh...silly phone! She's not eaten much in days now. I haven't force fed her food and I'm not too comfy with that. But I have water with meds in it.

How often do chickens get keel injuries? Or maybe my girl has botulism?

Here's a video of Louise. I checked that right leg and it can move without her fussing at all. There's no major heat in the leg but a bit in the hip. There are no crunching or grinding feeling or sounds in the hip either. Let me know what you think. ☺

How often do chickens get keel injuries? Or maybe my girl has botulism?

I wonder too if a dislocated hip could move her body out of alignment?? She's been sore for a while now and she's just been in the sling for 2-3 days so far. She has no blisters on or around the skin on her keel. The only discolouration is from her poop being on her skin, which I clean off every...

How often do chickens get keel injuries? Or maybe my girl has botulism?

I'm thinking the wetting of feathers to see the keel isn't going to work right now as it's raining really hard out and it's uncharacteristically cold for August. Normally around 30C today it's 18C. A bit too cold, me thinks??
