That is why I was so torn about how to mix/supplement. My girls are pretty much all laying. I have 9 and still getting 7-9 eggs daily. Maybe I should put the flock raiser on the side instead of the oyster shell...and keep feeding mostly layer. Just wanted to make sure covered on protein since...
Wow. My layer crumbles that they are doing great on has 16% protein and is usually on sale for 9 or 10 dollars for 50 lbs. Chick starter I got at another store when they were babies was like 20 a bag and only had medicated. The scratch I get is 8% protein and 9 or 10 dollars for a 50 lb bag.
Wish I could find cheaper flock raiser feed. Double the cost of the layer feed. Layer feed I can get the "store brand" and it is good. Flock raiser they really only have brand names like Purina or pellets so I would have to transition them from crumbles.
Thank you! Yeah, this is my first time seeing them molt. I guess I just feel like I won't know when done molting lol. Sounds weird but they aren't losing a lot-just a few here or there on ground that I see- and are still laying well. Some missing some patches and some not. Just have to wait it...
I gotcha. Wouldn't be so bad to do all the time but the flock raiser feed is at least double the price for me. Maybe my girls will take a break this winter. Last winter they didn't at all. Mine have been picking at the oyster shell and hopefully the ones who need are eating. This morning it was...
Hi all. My chickens are in the process of molting I believe. They are still laying though. All I have read says they usually stop during molt. Is this normal? Some are missing some patches of feathers now in areas. It has been a slow process I have noticed over the last few weeks. They are also...
