Here's a direct link for anyone interested, thanks for sharing City Farm!
My attempt to block off the mice from getting inside my greenhouse shelf didn't go so hot. Besides blocking off and trying to prevent entry, I also set mouse traps around and inside. The first night I got two. Excellent! I reset traps and waited again. The next night I think I got four. It was...
ARG third start of my corn, sunflower and nasturtiums. Marauding mice have again attacked my shelves! I don't see how I'll be able to keep them out. I laid some traps today.
I'm using a Hyllis shelf from ikea, it has a zip on plastic cover but the bottom is open.
Happy 2022 everyone!
This year I've started early outdoors, I have both a modified Greenhouse (?) And a portion of my raised bed I've tented in plastic. I ordered a bunch of Heirloom Seeds as well so, I decided this year to do the 3 sisters planting: corn, squash, and pole beans.
That started me...
I think mortgage lifter is a good choice, also better boys. I have a problem with a tomato virus, so I'm using determinate this year except the Cherokee and beefsteak. Wish I had your acreage!
If you want good fertilizer, come muck out my run!
This year I decided to try tomato-tone organic...
Late frost! Epic rain! (Although not as epic as our poor friends in zone 5 Midland Michigan. My heart goes out to them)
Mother nature is really handing it to us here in Northern Illinois, but on the bright side my potatoes are coming up. Things are looking Rosy, especially since they're doing...
@AgnesGray I put a lot of seeds out, my spinach/mustard/kale have sprouted, and I have started broccoli in the same garden.
Last weekend in my other raised bed, I put in my lettuce seeds and onion starts as well as carrot seeds. This year I pushed the easy button and got a carrot tape, carrot...
:hmmYikes, I had three tomatoes with frostbite and I think I lost a pepper plant. I didn't count on the wind blowing as hard as it did.
More cold weather for me tomorrow.
I just wanted to touch base with other zone 5'rs. We had a late frost here, and I see pictures from my friend from Ontario with snow all over the ground. Hooray for the weather forecasters who warned us for the past two days to keep things covered, which I did. Anyone else have weather...
Agnes, what are fresian peas like? I did a search and only came up with horses and Snert! (Pea soup, I kid you not)

P.s, my bunnies are like cows
The peas are in the ground! Worked on my raised bed this weekend and set regular and sugar snap peas. I still have one more wheelbarrow of fill to put in there, and a little more time and I can finish up.
This weekend I also got three blueberry bushes. Needed to prep before they can go in...
I pushed ahead with the growing season, weather report be damned.
I don't care if we do get another snow storm, I made another container garden and planted tomatoes.
They were going to die (or kill) my cats anyway, who couldn't keep their mouths off them. Just a little bit more leaf off every...
All the cruelties of chickens!
My raised bed with arugula, spinach and mustard starts was cruelly murdered last weekend. High winds blew down the access panel. Crafty chickens took notice and advantage.
It was a redo. Got the seeds in, some of the leftover sprouts continued, then today:
Today I started my first container garden. Maybe a little early? I don't care, it doesn't feel too early. The magnolia started blossoming.
I know we could still get snow, but I figure I could tuck the containers up close to the house and protect them if we got bad weather/cold snap.
I used the...
