It's been awhile since I've checked in. I recently lost 4 of my girls to a weasel. Fixed the tiny hole it got through. Looking to add some more girls to my flock. I'd prefer young already laying or about to lay. Does anyone know where I could find some here in central Maine. I was going to order...
So I have had my isa's that are a year old and my 16 week old barred rocks (5 pullets and a rooster) runs side by side for weeks. They have ignored each other for a long time. Saturday night I slipped the barred rocks into the big coop with the isas. Yesterday they stayed completely seperated...
Please tell me what this is. I saw a lot of blood on an egg shell this morning and did vent checks and found this. They've been picking on each other some and thought that was the feather loss. Please help!
@superchemicalgirl I know a few weeks ago you thought I was still ok with me barred rock in question being a girl. Just thought I would see what everyone thought now at 6 weeks.
They have oyster shell that they eat alot of. I also know they aren't pulling to eat feathers cause their feed is 20% protein. I might have to get some saddles. Figured I would only need one if I had a rooster which I don't. I have the pick no more that I tried on one when they were younger and...
I swear my ISA Browns have lost their minds! Since they turned a year old they've done a complete 180 from how they were. They are jumping on each other's back like a rooster would so now some are losing feathers and have broken feathers just in front of their tails, they've decided to start...
I bought 6 barred rock pullets at agway 3 weeks ago. Ordered them as sexed pullets. There is one that i have been really worried that is a cockeral. I don't want a rooster so im hoping its not. Last year with my Isa's i was convinced i had a rooster but turned out to be a really big girl when...
So she's staying in the cage for the night. Put some more on her and she shakes her head and makes it bleed. Looks like a pin hole in the back point of her comb.
Yesterday the other girls decided to keep pecking in the cage when she'd come to the side and grabbing her comb where it was still kind of bloody. Had to put the stop bleed stuff on her cause it wouldn't stop on its own. And put cardboard on the side of her crate that they could reach her on...
Ya it still bleeds a little off and on and others were interested so that's why I separated her from the others but still with them. Hoping when I recheck her a little later it will be done bleeding so she can go back out.
Nothing like going to the coop this morning at 5 to find blood everywhere over the poop board. Counted the chickens 3 times in a panic, they were all there. Started to look at each one individually then. They must of got in a squabble last night after I shut them in around 6:30, cause one of...
Finally gave in and bought a game cam from Dicks sporting goods. Especially after all the tracks and few dig marks and this morning the fresh poop a foot from the back of my coop. Granted I'm pretty sure nothings getting in the coop, made sure that was really reinforced when I built it. Still...
I know some people were suggesting rats but I was thinking a weasel. The tracks didn't show a particular print or I would of taken a pic of it. I do have to get a game cam. I had one from when I used to bear hunt but it got mangled. Guess I will be on the hunt for a weasel and keep a close eye...
Thinking I have another weasel checking out the coop and run. I swear I'm gonna sit down there and wait for it to show so it can meet the same fate as the one this summer did. These are the tracks in the snow. They are 2 different sets.
