ok funny you mention grey hairs!!! I didn’t type it but definitely said that to my mom! Sounds like you are having a bumpy journey- or is this just how it goes with incubating? The DL will be my third batch... so I’m still so new, but may not try this again for a while! One of my Orpingtons...

Sadly my last Orpington egg with saddle air sac was no longer alive by the time I tried the safety hole... no movement. Never even internally pipped. 😢 On the same topic...Here is one of my Deathlayer eggs which is growing a huge saddle air sac. Day 11. Is there anything to be done other than...

Here are my two lavender fluffington (Orpington) chicks! There is one egg left in the incubator at day 23... feeling a bit sad, it has a kinda wonky saddle shaped air sac but I still see some movement inside. Do I wait til day 25 to give up hope?

Thank you For your kind words! I’m sorry for your troubles with your daughter...but having been a daughter I know I did not get along with my mom from about 16-25! But we are totally good now. Glad I am not yet at the teen years with my kids, they are still little... so our arguments are less...

That sounds so sad! Sigh! So sorry. Is this type of information typically so obscure? Or just because it’s a new to US breed? I did read that they prefer to free range; could the birds have supplemented their own diets for lacking nutrients this way? I just lost my father in-law last...

I am so sorry to hear about your chicken heartache! So sad, really hoping some hatch yet now I’m scared. Is there any chance it was Mareks? But I’m sure they would vaccinate on the GF farm...

Wow, my stomach just dropped. Thank you for the candid reply. I had no idea that there may be neurological issues in my future. I definitely would not want to perpetuate a breed with such issues! I have a tender heart and do not do well with suffering critters. I will be looking into a...

Thanks for the tip! Was it New Skin? That was my first thought since I use it all the time for myself! I wasn’t sure if the medication in it would be contraindicated for chicks... Well the damage is done either way! : /

Thanks for the input! Sorry to hear that your hatch was less than desirable from even a reputable source! I have never met one, but was drawn to their appearance, stunning chickens! I am starting a new flock, in a new state so I wasn’t quite sure what birds I wanted.

Hello! I’m new to the incubating business... had one hatch last month. I have 3 Lavender Orpingtons due on the 6th... Just set 7 Deathlayer eggs, shipped from eBay. They appeared fresh and in ok shape, only 2 with loose/wobbly air cells. One was cracked, I have attempted a repair with...
