I agree with @ButtonBag . They need more hiding places. Dollar store baskets, cardboard boxes, just about anything will do.

More space is always good. How much space does each pair have? Do they have places to hide? Pictures of your setup would be good.

Were you sure they were bonded pairs before you separated them? If not, you might try switching up the pairs. Are there feathers all over the cage? If so, they might just be moulting. Buttons can live together if there is enough space. Do you have a large enough enclosure to put pairs of...
