Got some photos of my male and everyone else today. These quail have been pumping out eggs and making me $$$. On the flip side the most dreaded task on my little homestead has become peeling quail eggs! Very much tedious.
The quail are hilarious and adorable. I love sitting in their area...
Update time! My quail have been laying like crazy! Today I pickled 77 quail eggs. After trying my trial batch last week, my CSA buddy has committed to purchasing 2 cases a month. So I will be pickling once a week about 70 eggs. I am getting $100 a case. Sweet! This will put my monthly farm...
Yeah I mean, if the egg numbers are dropping I am not against eating them. I will likely hatch some last spring. :)
I need to let my birds all get a little older right because I just got a call from the Pallorum inspector from my state and they want to schedule me! I need all my birds to get...
The only one I have noticed crowing so far is a wild type. Have not witnessed any mating yet. I will spiral band the legs of the males and share here as i figure them out though.
Mr. Friendly enjoying a nice dust bath.
Striking a deal for some grapes. Very tough negotiator.
These little stinkers are a pleasure. So far I have turned over their wood chips once. No smell, the space seems to be handling the waste load nicely. Looking forward to some eggs!
All the quail are doing great. Have heard some attempts at crowing, but they always clam up when I go over to investigate. Should be getting eggs in 2-3 weeks ish! Going to get some pictures this afternoon.
I mean, he is all chirpy and seems to have a lot to say. It would just be rude not to answer. Don't worry though. I take all his advice with a grain of salt. Bird brains...🤪
Everyone is dong great!
The autumn amber male is the
most boisterous of the group. I nicknamed him Mr.Friendly. He lets me hold him and we have conversations. My internet is being very slow right now but I just got some pics. They're pretty blurry because they never stop zooming. Will post...
Getting some rain tomorrow so I came up with a creative way to block water from entering the aviary. Hemlock boughs!
And some good ol fashioned wood on the back side.
