Could This be an American Sable Rabbit? No Other Coloring Matches (or a Mix?)

The bunny has a new home now. This place is where she is going. Yes, she! The lady sexed that bunny sitting on my steps. So, now I could sex a rabbit if I had to in the future. She said she probably lost her dewlap just from maybe losing some weight out on her own, but she was in good shape and...

Could This be an American Sable Rabbit? No Other Coloring Matches (or a Mix?)

The Humane Society doesn't take rabbits, however, they said send an email with the particulars about this rabbit and contact information and they may find someone to help. Today, a local mini-farm/petting zoo type operation not far from the house called and they're coming to take him to be with...

Could This be an American Sable Rabbit? No Other Coloring Matches (or a Mix?)

I want to add thank you peeps for all your help and great information! I've learned quite a bit even if I don't keep rabbits in the future. I like adding info to my knowledge bank! Appreciate it! :thumbsup🙂

Could This be an American Sable Rabbit? No Other Coloring Matches (or a Mix?)

Thank you, if no one claims him as theirs (and they have to ID the color, at least), then we'll investigate that. ETA: There is one in Kennesaw, about 2 hours from here, but when I researched rabbit rescues in this county, the local Humane Society popped up, so we're going to call them tomorrow...

Could This be an American Sable Rabbit? No Other Coloring Matches (or a Mix?)

If he is an American Sable for sure, they are supposedly meat rabbits I read. He's really handsome, I think. Thanks so much for that! I was afraid I'd taken in some pregnant doe, LOL, but I didn't see any belly on it or any other signs of impending birth like pulling fur or actual nest-building...

Could This be an American Sable Rabbit? No Other Coloring Matches (or a Mix?)

I'll have to get my husband to hold him so I can take the picture. I think it's probably male, but here are some pics so maybe you can see the dewlap area better (I hope). The ear close up was because he was curious about the camera.

Could This be an American Sable Rabbit? No Other Coloring Matches (or a Mix?)

Thank you for your input! I think if I was going to keep a rabbit, this one is an awesome one to break in a new owner, very non-aggressive, but I just got a new flock that same morning, after much agonizing over buying hatchery stock again, and it was just a heck of a day. I'm probably not in a...

Could This be an American Sable Rabbit? No Other Coloring Matches (or a Mix?)

Thank you so much for that rabbit crash course! To be honest, I've never much liked rabbits and though this one is a nice one, it's still sort of foreign to me. I don't relish taking on another type of animal right now. I just don't want it to be killed by the fox that hangs around here or the...

Could This be an American Sable Rabbit? No Other Coloring Matches (or a Mix?)

UPDATE: The bunny has been moved to an empty 5x8 back pen in the barn and has a big bed of hay. He/she seems completely happy now, not at all afraid of us, very docile. Good bunny. So, now, I have to learn about rabbits, what to put on them for fleas/mites (invermectin pour on?), etc. so this...

Could This be an American Sable Rabbit? No Other Coloring Matches (or a Mix?)

Looked out the kitchen window this morning a few minutes before we were leaving for the feed store and there was a huge rabbit in the yard, not unusual, but this one was extra large and super dark for a wild rabbit. I realized it was a domestic rabbit of some kind and couldn't let my cat or some...
