I rarely buy pellets because all my chickens are bantams, so I stick with crumbles for the ducks too. I did buy some "mini-pellets", and I didn't notice him having any issue with them.

Very cute!! How is he doing now? And I agree with the theory of the disruption of the development. I’ve rescued eggs from hens many times without the issue, so I believe it’s a timing thing, stage of development at the time.

Took little Gharth outside with my 5-week old loner hatch Phoenix yesterday. Phoenix still picks on her a bit, but I’m hopeful they will bond. For now, Gharth is with 4 other recent hatchlings, doing great. The others will be going to a customer of mine later this week.

Well, our little duckling is gaining weight pretty well, the hatchmate is growing faster but she seems to be doing fine. With one exception... the tongue seems to be pushing out one side and almost like it’s drying out. I’m not sure what effect this may have, if any. But so far, it could be...

“Party On, Garth” :lau I was already calling it Caiman, but Gharth is cute too. I’ve gotten away from naming my birds because those always seem to be the ones I lose. But I’m hopeful that this one will be around for a long time.

Today I weighed little Caiman and his hatchmate. He weighs 23 grams, his buddy weighs 31 grams. I’m glad to have a hatchmate to compare weights with.

Thanks for the info! We’ve seen lots of crazy injuries here on BYC and other places like FB etc, and how they can amazingly heal, but I have never seen an adult like this, so I’m glad to hear that it’s possible.
