This is the new temporary set up, keeping 3 separate lots of ducks. Youngsters locked in the brooder at night with free range during warm days.
The teenagers (that peck at the youngsters wings) have the 2 story duck pen which is locked at night.
Then there's Dizzy (dada drake) and Dingus ( mama...
We've got a little property on 5 acres just down the road and we are fixing it up to live there. We just have to make do with what we have here till we get there.
In saying that, Dizzy and 3 ducks are using the outside toilet as a coup out the back. They share the yard with the chickens lol.
She was also picking on Quackers (our disabled duck) so I put her out the back with Dizzy and his harem, she's old enough. See how she likes being picked on lol.
I've put the little one's back in the tractor brooder, it's not a warm day. 🦆
I put Amy back out this morning then watched on the camera's what they were doing.
One of the nearly adult ducks is pecking and eating their wing feathers.
Problem solved.
More separation tactics needed and done.
We've been watching Amy closely, (bleeding wing tips). She's a month old and is really behaving like a bloody Mama with it's babies, they aren't hers lol. She sits at the end of the bed talking into the tank.
Everybody has had thei bath therapy except Amy and she was happy being near the little...
Chickens can hatch duck eggs.
Dingus, our Mama duck hatched 3 in the middle of Winter (6 months ago) 1 died half hatched. I grabbed the 2 babies and put them in the brooder inside, taking them out to her each day to show her she still has them. She's a very good Mum, she is Mama duck to al but...
OMG! I was reading this about the tablets.
Tablet
Most tablets contain 500 mg of niacin. So if you divide 500 by 9 you get 55. This means that one tablet can supply enough niacin for 55 doses. Those 55 does can be used for 55 ducks in one day or 55 days for one duck. Or you can simply mix it...
I'll find some proper yeast.
Amy does try to chew off the tape. The more she tries, the more I put on lol.
Have I mentioned I have chickens? Araucana's mainly and some big orangey red ones. They are out the back with Dizzy and his flock. Ducks and chickens can free range together.
I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't have started all of this. I love incubating. We had a 98% hatch rate with chickens and ducks till the last hatch. I bought a dozen Silver Appleyard eggs last month for $100. posted in the mail, got them the next day, waited 24 hours to settle the eggs, did...
In the big tank we have Winifred who is having trouble with rigid legs. Stephanie has shaky legs so we're thinking the B3 for that now that we've found it. And there's Amy. I've just cleaned and dressed her wounds again, she's not phased about it. She's doing much better.
The fishtanks are all...
The Tractor Coup with 2 brooders on the top. (We don't use the bottom of it much.
We carpeted the duck coup for warmth. 3 different compartments to sleep or hatch in. It's locked up at night.
Free range all day with a pool, fruit trees and heaps of worms every morning under the worm carpet.
We...
She's been biting herself. The tank is just a sick bay type of thing, warm with suger cane, food and water. We can keep an eye on anyone that needs it. We love our birds and would never make them uncomfortable.
They looked ok after I cleaned them. I have light surgical tape on the ends so she can't bite them.
She sleeps in the brooder with her 3 sisters and 4 younger ones. There's no sharp bits or edges they could hurt themselves on.
She's in good spirits and loves the newborn ducklings, she's gone...
We live in a little town in Australia, not suburban at all. Snakes, magpies, hawks, cats, dogs. Nothing like what you have. Our Manx cat guards the ducks and constantly walks the perimeter lol.
