Well, a positive note on Crazy Eyes, yesterday she had the most food in her crop that I've felt in about 3 weeks now, and this morning it was completely empty. It was mid 40s yesterday and warmed up to 57 over night, so that likely helped her feel like eating too. It's supposed to go back to...
No changes today either, no other birds looking off, nothing suspicious in the coop. I left them locked in the coop today as it wasn't really getting above freezing all day, then let them into their run when I got home for about 15 minutes. They all came out, milled around pecking at stuff...
I just got about 1.5ml of water into Crazy Eyes, her crop seems normal tonight but nearly empty. I checked her for the 50th time for any external parasites and I noticed she has some feathers just starting in. I hadn't noticed she was molting, there are barely any red feathers around, I know...
Today is day #3 for Corid, since she wasn't drinking I syringed a dose into her last night. I have been doing wet layer feed 4 to 5 days a week since she's been looking off, it's the only way she'll attempt to eat. Yesterday I scrambled 2 eggs and used that with a bunch of water to make their...
This morning Crazy Eyes' crop is soft, it still has something in it, maybe 2 tbsp volume today, but it's no longer hard and gritty. Is there any chance it's impacted? Instead of her over eating on top of an impacted crop, is she not eating and therefore her crop is small? Should I syringe her...
No changes in the flock, Grump Grumps still looks like she's not liking the cold, she looks to have all her feathers back in but she was molting a few weeks ago. She jumped up on my leg today for a selfie. Crazy Eyes seemed a little more interested in getting some scrambled eggs and wetted...
I'm just so thankful for any suggestions, thoughts, ideas, double checks, I don't mind you being fooled by a blurry photo ❤ I've gotten so doggone attached to these little buggers, it's crazy. I just want to do good for them and if I'm doing anything wrong I want to correct it.
This coop is the best at getting outside as soon as the storms stop. We've been getting snow from the north and the coop is to the north of the run so they always have close to 1/3 of the run clear and a soon as it isn't snowing or blowing too bad they all pop outside. This morning they all...
I haven't added any plastic over the vents, there is a plastic bug mesh and the vent slats. I got a better picture to show them.
Also, yes, same bag of bedding across all the coops.
They free range for a few hours in the evening, but not lately, since it's dark early they are roosting by the time we get home, plus we've had 4 snows this month and it's been sticking around on the ground so they've been coop bound more this month than previous ones. December was warm so...
Yes, they've been emptying overnight. Crazy Eyes (named because she always seems like she's just wide eye staring, like she's "seen something" been that way since she was little, it's not extreme but she just has this intense and slightly shocked look or something, plus it's a fun name) is left...
It's 16 degrees out, I'm doing a deep clean on the coop, the girls don't want to be outside so they are mostly hanging out with me in here. I have one EE that is puffed up, but I'm not sure if she's just cold, she's looked like this before, attaching photos.
It's 28 in the coop and falling...
Yes, just the one coop. I bought the day old chicks last spring, Feb or March I think. They are all the same age, from the same hatchery, bought within 3 weeks at the same feed store. It's an 8x10 walk in coop, I didn't add the heater until after Crazy Eyes wasn't looking good, it's a radiant...
They shouldn't be able to get any poison, we don't keep any here because of all our chickens and other 4 legged critters. All three coops are on the same feed, getting the same treats if I give any out, clean water that's on one of those heated stands so it's never frozen.
Keep the ideas...
Thank you, it's so upsetting to loose my little meeps. Thabkfully my husband is doing better, so that's one less stress at the moment. I think I'll start Corid tomorrow since it should hurt then even if they don't need it, then get a fecal float test done. It's odd I'm only having trouble in...
