    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

No worries, it happens! Looks like the winners of that contest were announced in early June: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/13th-annual-byc-easter-hatch-along%E2%80%94hatching-chick-photo-contest.1512468/page-24#post-25808266

Not my girls! They're fancy little bantams, though, so I can't imagine they'll be in any hurry to get there. 😅

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Great idea! They turned out beautiful! :love Here are my two Easter babies 😁 I named the Cochin bantam Trixie and the naked neck Gwenyth. I don't know how I managed to hatch two and end up with two pullets, but I'll take it--my later hatch was 5 pullets out of 15 chicks. :th

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Which contest? This is the main EHAL thread, not one of the contest threads.

Also very interested in learning how they were sexed. :pop Maybe they're sexlinked or an autosexing breed? (Pictures of babies also appreciated, regardless! :P )

For sure, which makes it wild that people still believe in that method and insist that it works! It's not the only chick sexing method I collect data on annually, though, just one of many. I've had a lot of fun with it, too...

Yup, I fully agree, and about 5 years of data I've personally collected from my own chicks backs it up! 😊 I really only do it to have that data and show people, from someone actively using the method, that it just doesn't work on any random chick.

Well, the naked neck from what I could see past the weirdness of her wings sexes as a female, and the Cochin as a male. That said, all of my Cochins from that line wing sex as male and I get more females than males from them in the end, so wing sexing hasn't proven to be accurate on them in the...

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Well, this naked neck bantam is officially the weirdest chicken I've ever owned and it's not just the naked neck that makes me say that. 🤣 I sat down yesterday to 'wing sex' the chicks as I do with all of my chicks to record results and see how accurate it actually is, and this little one's...

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

You could be on to something! Feels like we've had every kind of weather possible here over the past three weeks, as is typical of our spring. :th

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

A little silkied Black Cochin bantam hatched around 2am last night, bringing me up to two babies. Looks like the other two Cochin eggs quit on me, though, so I guess my Easter hatchalong curse continues. At least I don't have a loner this time!

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

One of my silkied Cochins is external, and I think the other is internally pipped! :wee I think the third may have died, but leaving it just in case, of course. Here's hoping those two Cochins hurry it along, because that NN baby is not waiting very patiently for company! 🤣 Haha, he sure is...

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

My first one's out! The other three eggs are drawn down, so they shouldn't be far behind. :fl My cat, Casper, is veeery curious... These are the first babies since I adopted him so it's going to be interesting. I've already set up the brooder to be cat-proof so we're covered on that front. 😊

My last remaining naked neck bantam egg has pipped externally and has been peeping!! 🙏 :fl :jumpy :pop

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

I'm pretty sure one of my naked neck bantam eggs quit at some point last night. 😔 Just one remaining, so hopefully it hatches. It looks like it's in position to internally pip if it hasn't already. I hear no peeping, so I'm not really sure. The silkied Cochin eggs are going good still, though...

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

My three silkied Cochin eggs are looking good still, and the two remaining shipped eggs are looking... okayish? I don't know, they don't seem big enough for as far along as they are, but they're still active and otherwise look fine. Heading into lockdown, so here's hoping they hatch fine. :fl...

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Still five live eggs out of the five I had remaining as of today, day 10 (average between the two sets of eggs). Come on, babies! :fl

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Yeah, the clears from my own flock are Cochin bantam eggs, so I'm thinking they need a butt trimming to get all that fluff out of the way so that my man Gus can actually hit the mark. 🤣

    13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Same here, I think. That, or the Easter hatchalong really is cursed for me! 🤣 It always seems like my EHAL hatches go really badly. I have just 5 eggs still going, one of which is looking iffy but still moving around on its own as of just now. I had 5 more that were developing but have died...

We have life :love It was too early for the Cochin eggs still when I peeked last night, but there were a few of these at least in the naked neck eggs!
