13th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

I candled both of my eggs last night, and they're both alive! I'll have to upload the videos @room took sometime today. They're both squirmy little wormies.

Possibly dumb question, but does anyone know if hot weather could speed up the hatching process? Last week it jumped from the 60s to the 90s for a few days. I'm just wondering if they'll maybe hatch a little early now.

Temps being a bit high over 18 days can make them hatch a bit early. A couple of days not so much though.

Was the room very hot?

The dodgy Pavlovskaya egg was dodgy. Rotten egg, decomposing baby blob. Down to 4 from that batch.

Edit: Was able to get a good look into a few of the legbar eggs, had a day 7 or so quitter in one of those, so out it went. I have some serious doubts about another which would leave me with 3.

Some of the Pavlovskaya eggs that are alive though are going nuts in there!

Not a dumb question at all! I believe it is possible that the higher temps could speed things along a bit. I know if momma is hot she will be giving off more heat to the eggs. I know in my incubator the middle is warmer than the outside so I rotate around to get more even growth but still end up with one or two that hatch early and one or two that hatch later! So glad they’re doing well still!

I think it was around 96° in the shade, so it was pretty warm for this time of year.

Woke up to a distressed peep peep this morning. I meant to candle last night and should have apparently. Whoops! A baby hatched and was under the turning tray walking around in the water compartment. Poor squirt! He's now been moved to a hatching incubator with two other very early pipped eggs to dry off. Here we go!

My three silkied Cochin eggs are looking good still, and the two remaining shipped eggs are looking... okayish? I don't know, they don't seem big enough for as far along as they are, but they're still active and otherwise look fine. Heading into lockdown, so here's hoping they hatch fine. I'm so ready for babies!! I've got my baby bin brooder cleaned, plus a dog crate to keep the peepers out of reach of curious kitty paws, and my new brooder plate should be here tomorrow, just in time to get it warmed up and ready.
