I got my first flock for this property from a farm store and, thanks to some knowledgeable people here, I took time the night before and STUDIED what chicks of the breeds I was after ought to look like. :D When possible, I prefer to order from the hatchery.

Honestly, I'm still confused by the difference between double-laced and penciled since they look like the same pattern in different colors. :D

Red Band, Blue Australorp x French Cuckoo Marans cockerel. At 15 weeks some of the more docile hens were allowing him to mate. You can barely tell he's blue now because he's so dark, but as a chick he was definitely blue rather than black.
