you cant really protect chicks when using a broody.
Maybe if you batthed the broody and used a new pen that had never been around other chickens but it probably would not work. I dont use broody hens for hatching for just that...
yes I did find out and no it does not kill a chick if it has been exposed already, it just does not work if tht is the case. I can even do the whole thing myself now with no help whicj is good cause I only have my 3 year old ds most of the time lol

Can I do some that are a few months old? they have not been exposed to any adults still in a brooder in their own room.
