We have a first egg today! Nice olive color. Here is Hazel’s little pullet egg next to my other OE’s egg (she is a Welsummer/CCL cross) and a photo of Hazel today, just under 20 weeks old.😊
Hazel now 11 weeks. Has all of her adult feathering in now. She is a little skittish but I think this is partially due to the fact that I got her already at two weeks of age. Her hatch mate Violet is turning out to be a male, so I will be selling him. That’s the way things work out sometimes.🙂
Just over 7 weeks and Hazel has all her feathers in. Hoping her beard/muffs fill in a bit more as she gets older. If their anything like Silkies, this can take several months. I am really liking her coloring, almost a copper color base.😊
Her brood mate Violet is feathering in nicely, too. Still...
Hazel just over 4 weeks. Out enjoying the good weather.
I’m really liking the color pattern she is developing. Looks like some brown feathers starting to come in on her head.😊
Yes. I know these are not OE in the traditional sense. I have other “true” OEs as well. Was more curious about their appearance and temperment and egg production.
I know egg color will be a crapshoot. Guess we will find out when they lay.🤣
Sounds like they could be the same birds. 🤷♀️
Technically OEs are EEs.
Scissor beak in EEs is common from what I understand. Single combs in Wyandottes too. I have never ordered from Ideal before (bought mine from a third party) but hatcheries in general breed for quantity and not quality...
Out with the chicks today and I noticed that little Hazel, the OEs new name, is developing what looks like orange and dark brown, almost spangled patterned, feathers. Interesting that all three of the ones that I had were so similar considering they are half Easter Egger with fairly endless...
I've never had Barnevelders. How do you like them?😊
I did find a photo on line that were supposedly all from this cross. There is a chance of them laying brown, but it should be a nice copper color if so:
Awesome!🥰 Mine, still to be named, is 3 weeks old too! Her sibs went to their new home today. So I only have this one left with her Silkie mix buddy!
Please post photos of Judy here as she grows, too!😊
