    Snake in coop

I lived in Mandeville for 8-9 years then left a few years after Katrina. Placed changed after the storm. Maybe we passed on the street lol.

Thanks again for adding about Amdro-that’s what everyone is saying to use. I’ve personally never tried it. May be doing that since nothing else seems to be working.

    Snake in coop

Hi-well I think it’s a rat snake. I usually come across copperheads. I made a mistake. It was a big snake and I was in adrenaline mode removing it from the coop. Had so many things going on in my head at the time. The pattern threw me off a little and I have been corrected a couple of times on...

You have a snake living with your chickens? I read that right? Sounds like a natural pest deterrent. If you are old school farmer, sounds like you know what you are doing! I always say sometimes the old ways are the best ways. Just depends. Copperheads are in league of their own.

Born and raised in Pineville. Went to school in Alexandria. Nothing special about that place except the forests to go riding!

Ok thank you! It looks like it’s worth a try.

    Snake in coop

You obviously know a lot about snakes especially since you have one.😊I come across a coral snake in my yard on occasion. I almost stepped on one working outside. Water moccasins is another one I’ve been careful around. They are fast too if the one I’m remembering was one. I’m from Louisiana and...

    Snake in coop

Thank you for the information. The more we know and learn, the more we’re armed. I was also told copperheads have slits for eyes and rat snakes don’t? I’m not going to put myself in a position to be close enough to a snake to see what kind of eyes it has to determine if it’s dangerous or not...

    Snake in coop

No, not winning the battle as of yet with the ants lol. And I have tried cinnamon as well! Didn’t do darn thing for me. I even tried Tabasco sauce. I’m just not a very lucky person.😏 Amdro is what everyone is saying to try. So your husband has right idea I think lol. I may have to order it. Not...

    Snake in coop

Old timers lol. Sadly I am one also to get my shovel if it’s a threat to my animals or too close to the house. Only thing about just relocating them was I didn’t want to chance them coming back to the coop. I figured once they know where it is, they will be back. Copperheads and corals are the...

    Snake in coop

Yes-I think it was a rat snake as well. I had spoken to someone else and they thought so too. I do get copperheads where I am unfortunately. This time it wasn’t thank goodness. I apologize for my mistake. I have hard time differentiating between the two.

    Snake in coop

I think they are fire ants. The boiling water didn’t work for me. Someone suggested trying orange oil. Haven’t tried it yet. I couldn’t find the netting I was looking for. Will have to order I think. I’ve been on lookout for more snakes near coop and run. So far so good.

    Snake in coop

That sounds bad! Be careful. Unfortunately the boiling water did not work for me. Will have to do poison somehow.

    Snake in coop

Ok-I may try that. I did the boiling method this morning on a bunch. Will see how that holds up. It’s time consuming so didn’t do all.

That’s true. Never thought of that.

    Snake in coop

Wow that’s cool! Awesome too. Yes, it’s the venomous ones I worry about. The harmless ones if I can ID, I leave alone as long as they are not a threat to my flock. I’m going to be picking up some ant poison that members told me to try for the mounds that keep multiplying and netting to wrap...

    Snake in coop

Goodness-must be a full moon tonight. Hopefully it was a loner. Was it close to your flock? I have a young Anatolian that I found as a puppy last year. She’s pretty good about watching our place-a little territorial. She’s good with my horses. She’s still learning but can be with my ducks and...
