Some of the chicks are still a bit damp this AM so I’ll move them into the brooder when I’m home from work this evening. I’m a bit paranoid about adding them in with my 5 day-olds so I want to make sure I’m home and I can watch them for a bit.
Any tips for integrating, or should it be a pretty...
All 6 have hatched! Yay!! And now that they’re drying off I actually think it’s 3 black, 2 grey, 1 splash.
Question: since all chicks are out, can I quickly open the incubator to remove the eggshells? Give them more space to move around. I won’t be transferring them to the brooder until...
Four of the six have hatched ❤️
Based on the breeder I got these eggs from I’m assuming I have 3 dark blue and 1 splash silkie on my hands.
The other 2 eggs haven’t externally pipped yet. Trying to remember that whole patience thing and keep hope that they may still hatch 🤞🏼
Two hatches and two more pips so far!
Woke up to cheeping at 4am. Second one was out by 6:30am. Not sure when they (or the other two) pipped. But the second to hatch was the egg I dropped, cracked and sealed with wax!
How does everyone handle the waiting game so well?! Lol
Day 20 here. No pipping. I know it’s premature but it’s really making me doubt if I’ll have any of the 6 hatch. Hopefully I see some movement tomorrow 🤞🏼
Lockdown has begun! Set humidity for 65% and I’m hoping at least a couple hatch. But I’ll be honest, I’m nervous I won’t have any hatch since it’s my first time.
Also, I decided to attempt an egg carton hatch since I am a bit worried about their air cells. On my last candling it looked like 2...
Candled my 6 remaining silkie eggs at the end of day 15. They all seem to be alive still ❤️ (even the guy I dropped, cracked and sealed 🤦🏼♀️) but their air cells already seem HUGE (compared to photos online, this is my first hatch).
Wondering if this means anything for the viability of the...
So…I cracked one of my 6 growing eggs when I candles on day 8. I sealed the crack with nail polish (and then candle wax when I freaked out that the polish wouldn’t hack it). I’m not candling all eggs again until day 15, but today is day 12 and I candled the cracked egg and it’s still dancing...
Candling at day revealed 6 eggs doing their thing. 3 had quit (blood rings evident). And the rest weren’t fertile/didn’t start for whatever reason.
On one of the still developing eggs I saw this air cell. Is this due to it being detached?
LOL I’m equal parts impatient and “worried if I handle the eggs too much they won’t develop because they’re shipped”. But today is day 8 and I’ll be checking them all later tonight. Fingers crossed!!
When I set my eggs I told myself I would be patient and not candle until day 8. Well, it’s day 5 now and I decided I NEEDED to just candle one lol. One out of one tested is developing! Yay!
They’re set! 14 shipped silkie eggs and 4 of my own (which I think may be duds, but we will see!) to hatch July 4/5. I’m so impatient already and REALLY wishing I ordered 2 dozen eggs instead 😂
This will be my first ever hatch-a-long!
I have silkie eggs shipping today and will set them later this week. First time ever incubating, so I’m excited but nervous!
And one of my silkie hens decided to go SUPER broody (also the first time ever) so I put some of my eggs under her…but I’m not...
