Both of my legbars are doing great but I separated them. They aren't competing and over mating the hens( have their own flocks now)One has 9 hens and the other has 8
I don't pick up the hens unless they want petted. One squawk gets both roosters attention. It doesn't take much to make a leghorn squawk as they're flighty anyway
Crested cream legbar roosters(blue egg layer)crossed with brown leghorns( white egg layers) gives you hybrids that lay pale blue eggs. F1's resemble cream legbars
Glad your cream legbars are working out! I had to cut my fence off to move my energizer after pounding new ground rods in the ground in a shady spot .Still don't have it hooked back up lol If it doesn't work after all this I'm hiring professionals lol
I'll take my chances on the electric fence any day because my chickens don't fly over it when the fence is on! Its keeps all of them safe not just one! Thanks!
Bantams are little money makers and very popular. Children can raise bantam roosters easier than the big guys without mom worrying about them being knocked down or losing an eye https://onceuponachicken.com/bantam-chickens-how-much-space-beginner-guide/
A bantam flock is a better option all way around for kids. They aren't as aggressive or as big and kids can hold them in their lap or carry them around. A lot of those the standard size wind up in the soup pot.
I highly recommend legbars to anyone who wants to raise chicks because the roosters are calmer than most (I have 2 in my flock) I keep them behind a fence with a couple strands of electric fence around it to prevent altercations with kids, family, delivery men or visitors.
