    Chickens started roosting outside coop

They’re allowed to free range on an acre. It’s primarily a duck coopbut there’s three chickens. I put roosting bars in there for the chickens so they don’t have to stay on the ground and I’m in the process of turning an old rabbit hutch into a small chicken coop. Unfortunately it’s been snowing...

    Chickens started roosting outside coop

Pretty good ventilation, there’s gaps all the way around the coop along the top from the pallets that I covered with wire, there’s also a window and some holes in the coop here and there and the back door is left open all day. Six ducks one of the six is a drake but he’s very docile he’s a...

    Chickens started roosting outside coop

He is a bully rooster, I believe he’s even mounting the ducks due to missing feather at the back of their necks. He’s also turned aggressive towards us, we will be eating him once we get a replacement rooster. I don’t have a picture of the inside but here’s our funny looking scrap coop it’s...

I think I'm just going to try getting them in the cool early! I guess I answered my own question. This was them tonight before I got them out of the tree one by one 😂

    Chickens started roosting outside coop

I'll check all those again. I recently checked their legs and no signs of scabbing or raised skin. Would it be limited to those things or is that just most likely. I guess maybe they don't like living with the ducks or maybe I need to make them a better roost comparable to the tree. Thanks for...

    Chickens started roosting outside coop

I'm not sure, if you're talking predator I doubt it, they used to go into the coop just fine at night but then they realized the tree was easy to climb after the leaves fell off.

    Chickens started roosting outside coop

A little background. We live in Iowa so we don't get snakes, but we get raccoons, hawks, and possums, and the occasional Fox or coyote. I personally haven't experienced predators since I've had them other than a hawk attack and my neighbor mentioned a fox in the neighboring yard but I never saw...

    Chickens started roosting outside coop

Hey guys not sure if this goes here or flock management but I’m having a dilemma here. My chickens have stopped going in the coop at night since the leaves on the trees have fallen. Instead they roost in our mullberry tree that's in the run. I'll post a picture. It takes a while to get all 4 out...
