I was thinking about you on Monday. I made a 4X4 brooder light box for a friend of mine. He will be getting 170 peeps today. Best of luck with your "brood".

Just curious if there is any interest from the LA Lay-ers. I've been corresponding on the Capon thread and did the procedure on two young birds a week ago this past Sat. Both birds have recovered well and never really missed a beat. Seeing how young roosters are always available for free...

Sorry, couldn't tell you the first thing about your duck other then it's a cutie. Spring of '12 my daughter hatched a dozen pure mallard (captive) eggs. Hatched out the prettiest little black and yellow mess-makers. All were slick headed except one. Every feather on its head stood straight...

Obviously, she's constipated. I think more roughage in her diet starting immediately. Happy New Year.

Quote: I tried a couple different times and seemed to always lose out to slugs/snails. Never seen so many around as when I had strawberries. Check around with folks and see what they use.

Very nice. You might consider lining the cyclone fencing with something a bit smaller. Predators will get the chickens all freaked out then they'll grab'em when they run by. I'd also close off those gaps with some small-hole wire as well. Looks like it'll serve you for many years.

I resemble that remark. Erath is our own little slice of Mayberry, USA. If'n too many folks find out about us then it'll spoil the ambiance.

Quote: I know a guy with a flock of young Australorps. I picked up two purebred roosters for him this summer. Once he starts getting eggs I will get a few dozen and hatch out. I'll let you know and if you're still looking we can get together.

My wife asked me this morning if we could take a break for a bit. I have 20 RIR that go into lockdown today. I'll clean everything up and enjoy them for a while.

Hey Terri, With your "TV" as inspiration I installed an HD screen on our LivingRoom Brooder. We currently have 8 2-day old guienas and 3 1-week old chicks. My nieces and nephew come over to the house and take the chickens out to watch television with them. Everyone enjoys the little...

Years ago my dad and I raised rabbits commercially and took most of them to an operation there in Evangeline that processed them. It was located right by the interstate. Nice piney wood country. Happy 4th to you and yours.

I married a girl from Erath and currently reside there. A nice community to raise a family. Moss and DuBois are my wife's families.

I remember the post and the hilarious pic of that bird running for his life. That is one UGLY bird. I'm afraid if he were my neighbor and came for a visit he would be met with SSS.

Growing up (in Church Point) we'd go down to the mills in Crowley. We got bran, polish and rough rice. The rough rice would be anything from full-grain, to broken with chaff all the way up to and including the "sweepings" which is literally what it was. However, the sweepings were never the...

Thanks -- I do find it a less than ideal time of year for this considering the stress the birds will be under already then add the oppressive heat. I had made plans to attend the last one and this one as well but we are having family medical issues and the timing didn't work out. If it's meant...
