Awesome!
Yeah.. My country is a little weird with livestock. Alot of it is very rural so you make do with what you have unless you own massive farms with production style farming.
Definitely not. These girls are not afraid to destroy the hand that feeds them (rightly so, crows and Gennets are afoot) I have never heard or seen them fight or peck each other
Where I live, things are often backwards. Not sure if you're familiar with the term '' squatter camps'' but look it up, especially south African squatter camps. That's generally the way a lot of people raise chickens, but not everyone but alot. Hence unconventional foods being somewhat cheaper...
It's basically naked butts for the most part. I'm thinking protein is the definite answer then. Some of the tail feathers are just stubs and spikes but not all of them look like that. Would you need to observe them for long periods to stablish whether it's feather oicking or would they do it Ile...
I'm not sure about this. From what I've seen, he stands to one side on his own while the ladies eat... But it's possible. There's definitely more than enough for everyone
Also the rooster looks to be in fabulous condition, maybe 3 hens too. Could he POSSIBLY be overzealous with the others causing feather loss? Some of the girls are BALD BUTTS and no tail feathers
Where I live I can get raw peanuts dirt cheap. Would that be a good little protein boost? Can chickens even eat peanuts? Is cooked rice and couscous OK too as I always have leftovers. Also I've added a picture that's pretty close to what the breed of chickens here are (it's just a photo from the...
This! There's some additions to the coop that I saw today so Maybe some good feed will definitely be a step in the right direction for everyone. Can the rooster eat layer too?
Hi @NatJ and @Sally PB It's possible, I'm happy to feed the birds regardless of cost (I'm just a big softie with animals). Protein could definitely be the issue here and soy beans aren't pricey or difficult to get hold of. I think perhaps the ideal that these chickies are intended to be free...
The owners are 100% alright with us feeding the chickens, they are mostly fed with fresh scraps anyways. I'm just wondering what I could add to the or diet to help them gain weight and better their condition. I'm looking at freeze dried crickets as well, and calcium supplements (any...
Well I gave them carrots, baby squash, tons of spinach and some Oats. The Oats were a complete hit... Was just a handful for like 20 chickens. Hope it's ok
Hi everyone, been a long while. I'll keep it short and sweet
We rent a cottage on a homestead and they have chickens, we get eggs regularly.
The chickens look rather terrible and the owners are struggling to keep them into top condition as she is trying her best to have a small egg business...
